Wine for decanting example

Post by ChrisV »

I'm seeing a girl at the moment who likes wine and would like to become more knowledgable about it. She was asking the other night about decanting wine and what effect it has. I'd like to buy a couple of bottles of a wine in around the $20 range, open and decant one of them for a few hours and then show her that side by side with a freshly opened bottle.

So what I need is a wine that's about $20 and will give a good example of decanting - which means it needs to be pretty tight and ageworthy, so that it will open up substantially. Any ideas?

Yeah not a bad idea that. My first instinct was Bin 28 but that's gotten riper and more early drinking of late I think. Thanks.

Try the Marius Symphony or Simpatico Shiraz wines. You might be surprised at what each of you finds.

Yes. Good example. The Marius wines are usually very specifically much improved with a good decant.
