Suggestions for Shiraz Viognier
Suggestions for Shiraz Viognier
Hi guys, yes it's me again, back from the dead for a short time before decending again into the hell of the wwwwworking man. NE Victoria is my next gig, I might check out how much water they really are holdng back from the parched Murray!
Thinking of having a no holds barred SV tasing at Blacktongues but I've been out of circulation for a while so need updating on what's good.
Automatics are RunRig and Clonakilla but I need another 7-8 suggestions.
Over to you guys, thanks in advance.

If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!

Shiraz Viognier... pfftt, why bother?
Okay, if you really must do it Steve you should include the Lengs & Cooter - your mate Colin has made a conscious attempt at a Cote Rotie style and it's rather good. RunRig and Clonakilla are excellent choices, and the Yering Station Reserve SV & The Relic suggested above are also.
The Laughing Magpie could be an inclusion again, at least for comedy value - more tinned apricots anyone?
Cheers,
Ian

Forget about goodness and mercy, they're gone.
At the cheaper end of the scale I'd try the Galli Estate 07 for around $15
Laughing Magpie is a good safe bet.
De Bortoli Shiraz Viogner 2006 is excellent
Yalumba Hand Picked Series 2005
Mitchelton Parish 2006 very good as well
My top recommendation would probably be the Turner Crossing 2005 from Bendigo is a must try, awesome wine
That's it.

Suggestions for Shiraz Viognier
When some wine scribe writes the book 'The Australian Wine Industry's Greatest Fads', Shiraz Viognier will be the first chapter...Dont get me started...
Having said that, Spinifex EV Shiraz Viognier is one cracking good wine, in my top 10 for the year at least....And the Hand Picked Yalumba is not far behind either...

Harsh comment. It may or may not be a fad, but I think Australia has produced some decent S/V blends, and it's only problem is that it's another victim of tall poppy syndrome.
Agree about the Yalumba though, a great wine.
ACG wrote:Perhaps the forgotten and oldest Shiraz Viognier in Australia (though I think its also contains some Rousanne) - Yarra Yering Dry Red no 2
Hi Tim,
You're right, the YY Dry red no 2 , has been around for long time and have many loyal followers. I, myself for example.
The top 3 of the Australian SV has to be the
Run Rig (not worth the money, despite how good it is) YY no 2, Clonakilla.
Cheers

Everyday is a bonus! Drink the best wine you can afford.
