May - What have you been buying

Post by Craig(NZ) »

You know the drill. What you taste is one thing, what you open your wallet for is another!

Over the last month practically nothing until I saw a few bargains at the local supermarket clearance this weekend for drinking over the winter when I feel like something a bit more interlectual than Saltrams Mamre of Penfolds Bin 28 on a cold winters night

06 Lawsons Dry Hills Gewurztraminer $14
05 Cottage Black Syrah $17
06 Wither Hills Pinot Noir $27

thats all! How bout you guys?

C

$45 I think. Nayan - was it "Four Vintners" or somewhere else?
fwiw Penfolds St. Henri is well priced in UK. Competition and market size I guess.

For me a very quiet month ...

4 x Leoville Poyferre 1996 (drunk one)
1 x Pontet Canet 1999 (drunk)
3 x Escarpment Voyager Pinot Noir 2006 (drunk two!)
3 x Domaine de Vallouit Cote Rotie 1999

Yep, it was AU$45; the 2004 is on release at around $55, so a definite steal.

Jay, I picked it up from Farr.

I think one of the other reasons for the relatively low price of the 98 is the general opinion here that Australian wines don't age. Quite happy to take advantage of that ignorance at every chance I can get.

For current drinking I've been getting quite a few bottles at auction - barely had to venture into Spud Murphys etc.

For cellar got a half case of Yeringberg 2005 mail order from the winery at $65 a bottle - they don't make a lot of wine so did not mind paying - an Aussie classic I believe. Will open one soon.

Been purchasing some straight Mataros whenever I come across them as I'm trying as many as I can this year.

NWR but been really enjoying some small production ciders such as Bress Bon Bon and some of the Begian Lambic beers.

Phew - a month without buying any wine. No real choice with car rego and insurance due - credit card wouldn't take anything more.

Good prices Craig -- where from?

For me:

A bit of a splurge on Escarpment:

2 x Kupe

8 x Voyager

2 x Moana

4 x Kupe Chardonnay

HB Syrah:

6 x Unison Syrah '06

2 x Vidal Reserve Syrah '05

2 x Bilancia La Collina '05

Some '07 Sauternes:

Coutet & Myrat so far (unfortunately the Climens is too rich for me, at $254.)

And 12 x Pegasus Bay Riesling 2007.

Cheers
Peter

Wifey had said (commanded) recently: "Buy less wine!"

I complied:

1x Krug CdM 1996
1x Y'quem 1976

I think she will be much more specific next time...

I picked up 12 x 2002 Petaluma Adelaide Hills shiraz for USD150 (for the case). I just wish I'd bought more at that price. Also grabbed another 6 pack of 99 Dom Perignon.

How lucky are you guys in the States, What would cost you for a 6 pack of 99 Dom?
Here in Sydney would be over a grand US.

3xGlaetzer Bishop 05
4xTorbreck The Struie 05
3xMr Riggs Shiraz 05

Just start on next year's budget. Take me for example ... I'm onto my 2014 budget now. It's an incentive to stay in work.
