Able Grape - a wine knowledge search engine.

Post by KMP »

No, this is not an engine to find the best price on your favorite wine, but you can find out pretty much everything else about wine. At least that seems to be their plan.

Able Grape is in beta and I've only played with it for a few hours, but its a whole lot more selective than Google!

Enjoy,
Mike

No, I am not affiliated with Able Grape - wish I was.

Wouldn't let me search, even though I'm using Firefox 2.

Works fine for me in Firefox 2, you have to enable Javascript, Tools, Options, Content, check the Enable Java script box.

Just had a quick looksie. Looks full of interest and will alert folks over here!!
It certainly seems very fast, I searched "bc wines" and up it came 22,000 hits.

Actually got it to work by using the 'examples' - it worked on 'spain' but not on 'climate change'. The once the results page came up, I could then use the search box. Weird!

On testing, it seems that one word is OK, but two is not when starting, but once past that hurdle, two words work.

It worked with two words (decanting shiraz) for me.

The site is in beta, so let them know about any problems.

Yeah, I am finding it great. I searched two obscure Burgundy vigneronnes, Paul Pillot and Bernard Bachelet, and got a ton of info!!

Just found this discussion as I was looking through Able Grape's referrer logs.

First, thanks for all the kind words -- I sincerely hope you find Able Grape useful.

Second, I wanted to ask if anyone had other comments or suggestions (or if anyone had any additional browser trouble; I'd like to hear about it).

Please don't be shy -- we've made a number of improvements based upon user feedback so far (from improving relevance and adding thousands of new sites to creating a browser plugin and customizable search preferences). So if you have thoughts or suggestions, please post them! (and if you'd like to keep up with the improvements as we make them, you can now register as well).

Kind regards
Doug Cook
