Planning a Clare Visit

Post by Maroon&Blue »

Currently in planning mode for quick visit to Clare region.
Any tips on memorable CD's, food venues & enjoyable lodgings would be much appreciated.
Have never had the pleasure of visiting this wine region, so really looking forward to the trip.
Thanks for any feedback.

Sevenhill is lovely.

Definitely try a few of the sparkling rieslings the various places have to offer!

Make sure you go on the weekend. Many of the CD are not open during the week.

My last Tour Diary in Clare starts here

Hi M&B,

I was in the Clare last week and thought the pick of the CD's were Mitchell, Tim Adams and Eldredge. Make sure you give Mount Surrmon a wide birth, the guy there was a twit and the wines move from bad, through faulty to DNPIM. Clos Clare is no longer open and we missed Penna Lane and Killakanoon :( .

Good to see things are improving then. :-( I don't think I'll ever live down taking the boys there on the strength of the one good wine they ever seem to have made and it was sold out.

Hey I can't be held to blame either, I hadn't remembered the poor time you and Ric had there, and Yvette just said let's try something you haven't heard of before  Nice view though.

Glen,

Whilst you are editing your profile, you had better add Runner Up TORB TN Competition too. :P

A lady who lives near you won it.

if i am not too late - and things may have changed since we were there in late 2005 - but we were very impressed with the folks and the wine at jeanneret and pauletts - lunch at skillogalee was dead nice

Neagles Rock was a highlight for me a couple of years ago.

They had some good tasting notes written about them as well.

Plenty of places... Mt Horrocks, Mitchell, Skillogalee, Pikes, Pauletts, Grosset (if they're open) are just a small handful, all memorable for either the wine or, in some instances the atmosphere. Clare is high on the QPW ratio (Quality Per Winery) for me.
