2006 Cimicky Trumps Barossa Valley Shiraz (cork): Dark to inky purple red. There’s no under-ripe characters here – a huge, ripe and sweet nose of blackberries/blueberries backed by vanillin, then caramel oak, with a little pepper and spice with breathing. The palate’s just as ripe but not especially big, long or complex, with sweet blackberry/cordial fruit and a touch of black olive, finishing minty with a little warmth (14.5% alc). A good and easy drinker, but nothing exceptional really.
Cheers,
Ian

For the price, I think it's a great wine!. I have a few bottles sitting in the cellar. I notice that there is a 'Charles Cimicky reserve'. Is this any good?

WINE - NECTAR OF THE GODS!
Yeah, this is the wine that won the trophy for best Shiraz at last year's Barossa Wine Show, and that was the sting in the tail of the last line.
It's clearly not one of the thinner/greener 2006 Barossa reds that I've struck to date, but looking behind that initial (admittedly impressive) burst of sweet blackberry cordial and oak I thought there wasn't an awful lot of real depth or complexity. Fairly priced and great now for a BBQ, but I won't be putting any in the cellar - that's my take anyway.
Cheers,
Ian
