Sharkey I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

With a low guess of 164 and a high guess of 729, that's a pretty big range to play with yet. I will give a clue then, it's somewhere between those two.

How about one for each day of 2008 = 366 corks.

Just out of curiosity why 5:43 pm? As opposed to 5:44pm for instance?
Cheers, Lev

And the winner is: grahamg with a guess of 530.
The actual number of corks in the jar is 526 + the cork top of the jar makes 527.
Well done grahamg, please email or PM me with your postal address and your choice of which wine you want - Johns Blend or Fox Ck Reserve, both cabernets, both 98.

John, I have no idea where you got 2 months from, it's more like 2 years (see earlier in this thread), almost entirely corks with branding on them, the others go for earlier re-cycling via a local retailer who collects them for craft people etc.
With tastings, dinners etc where I keep some/all of the corks I'd certainly average more than one cork per day.

Just Kidding.
We average about 1200 per year, but there are 4 of us.

Thank you very much for your generosity Red Bigot, I am already greatly in debt to you for the wine knowledge and tips you give both here and on your site. I have not yet had either of these wines so send which ever you like and know that I will savour it.
Thanks again!
grahamg
For anyone like me who spent too much time thinking about this game here is my equation Corks = r ^3 (6576.40 / F ) where r is the radius if the jar was a perfect sphere and F is the Fish Tank Volume from the last cork count competition (that had 1570 corks x pi x 4/3 = 6576,40). For the Fish Tank Volume I added 1cm to the height because it was filled over the top and a lucky guess of 15cm for the jar's radius.
