Cork Count 2008 Competition

It's on again.
It took me a while to fill this: Image

but now it's chockers: Image

The jar is 330 mm high to the top of the cork cap (which counts as 1 cork), circumference around the widest part (irregular shape, measured with a string) is 1000 mm.

The competition is open for 2 weeks from today and will be won by the person who nominates a number that is the closest to the actual number of corks in the jar. Only one guess per person.

The prize is a bottle of John's Blend Cabernet 1996 or a Fox Creek Reserve Cabernet 1998, delivered anywhere in Australia, pretty sure single bottle freight to NZ or elsewhere is prohibitive.

Not interested in the wine but I can see a Lake's Folly cork which is very encouraging :)

Probably a Balmoral 98 (last good one) or a Tradtional 2001 JWT winner, it's drinking nicely now, that's about all the Rosemount in my cellar.

Ok, you can have a 98 Lakes Folly cabernets if you win.

Dunno about 2008 in McLarenVale, haven't emailed the Pie King Vineyards in a while.

Using all sorts of mathematical theories and other twaddle, I have worked it out to be 387. 8)

Which is probably as close as Dr Nick ever is with diagnoses :D

My guess would be 287.

Overt what sort of time period did you manage to fill this jar, though? That info would improve the accuracy of my guess significantly!

I'm not sure it really helps, I mostly only put corks with branding on them into the jar, the rest are recycled. The prior competition was in October 2005, so a bit over 2 years.

What was the jar used for before used corks? Or was it a job-specific purchase? I suspect that it contained anchovies. What do others think?
Could this be an ancillary question in the event of a tie?

Ha, flushed out a newbie, welcome aboard.

I don't think it held anchovies, Andrea procured it many years ago as a "decorator" item and at one stage it was filled with rose petals from a bumper crop one year.

If anyone is careless enough to pick the same number as another person, the first posted correct entry wins, there won't be a tie.
