That cheeses me off.
NZ$24.95! Whats that about $12 in Australian money???
Why don't we get Bullnose Syrah here for $19.95?
The local shops in Tas are retailing this for $54 these days. One place has it for $45 and it was "on special" for $39.99 last week.
I don't buy it.
I don't get the logic. If this wine was $35 and occasionally discounted to $29 I'd probably buy 6 but I won't pay $45 for it.
I suppose Fosters doesn't care they have 1000 brands so I'm sure they think I spend the money that I used to spend on 389 on one of their other brands.

The Bin 389 04 goes for mainly between 3,000 to 4,000yen (about A$30 to 40) here, but I have seen it going at one shop for almost 5,000yen.
I cannot understand the inconsistency in the pricing of Aussie wines here. For example, some wines like Cullen DM 04 go for around 5,500yen (A$55) and other ultra-premium WA reds like Moss Wood Cab goes for 8,000yen plus. A Grosset PH 07 is on sale here for around 5,000yen (A$50), but a Katnook's regular Cab 02 goes for under 3,000yen (A$30) here while a Wynn black label 05 goes for 3,500yen.

It's normally around $40 - $45 that's pretty cheap even for here, your taxes are slightly higher on wine which will effect pricing across the board.
That said, Fosters in particular have been responsible for some pretty cheap wine this side of the Tasman.
Pffft. 389 is so '90s...
Yeah and the price is so nineties too, thats the bit i like.
'Another retailer' I know never made it under the $30 mark for single bottles this year
I don't buy it.
Before the 2004 vintage the last vintage i bought was just a couple of the 1998's before that a few 1996's. I found many vintages of 389 very forced and muddled. The 2004 though shows lovely fruit and restraint. i really like it.

It will only go up in Australia. Only in Australia are people happy to pay $45+ for it. Interesting pricing strategies used by Fosters...friends of mine in LA bought up big on Lindemanns Pyrus and Limestone Ridge earlier this year...$8-99 US a bottle.
Cheers

I love the 2004, I reckon its the best since 1996.
That's not a lot of competition (apart from possibly 98 ), I think the 2004 was the trial run before getting it right in 2005. They were entered in the same class at the NWS last month, the 2005 scored an emphatic Top Gold and the 2004 failed to win a medal in a strong class. Tasting them side-by-side clearly showed the extra class of the 2005.
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
