What is your most recent purchase? August 2007

Post by DJ »

I thought this topic might complement the "What's in your glass?" thread. A good topic to bring up occassionally to find out what people actually buy and potentially find some good tips.

For me?
Yesterday went out to Mount Majura - ridiculously close to our place, less than 20 minutes. We haven't been out for about three years, last time the winery hadn't even been built - but this is a buying thread not a winery visiting one.
6 bottle of 2003 Pinot Noir - current specially is $80 for a six pack, amazing value. Has a relative high level of tanin which might put people off but adds great structure and isn't noticeable with food.
Then 2 bottles of each 07 Riesling, 07 Pinot Gris, 06 Shiraz and 06 Tempranillo.

Last month was 6 05 Capel Vale Margaret River Cab Sav, 5 mixed 05 Pinot Noirs and 2 cases of Marius.

Nice discipline Craig! The "I'm not buying any more wine this month" thing is not working that well at present.

2005 Adelina Shiraz
2005 Wendouree Shiraz & Shiraz Mataro
2005 Murdock Shiraz
2002 & 2000 Murdock Cabernet
2005 Majella Cabernet & Sparkling Shiraz
2006 Yalumba Botrytis Viognier

Sadly, I think that's in the last 10 days  . And I haven't been able to drink anything with this damn flu.

So NO MORE PURCHASES for the next month (and this time I mean it).
Cheers

We went to the Auckland Coffee Festival and ended up buying wine! Mills Reef had a stand doing tastings so we ended up buying a bottle each of the 2007 Reserve Piont Gris, 2005 Reserve Merlot Malbec and 2005 Reserve Syrah.

The latter in particular was impressive in the tasting, with an extremely long finish.

Still early days for me in NZ so buying a lot on impulse!

Cheers,

Martin

Probably some Wendouree soon - sent my form in late so possibly not the full amount i requested but will wait and see.

Xanadu 1999 cab sav
Xanadu 1996 reserve cab sav
Clairault 1996 reserve cab sav
Penfolds bin 389 2004
Penfolds bin 28 2002

Tried the bin 28 last night and was not overly impressed. Maybe it’s due to the last few I’ve tried being the 98 which is an absolute corker. But I have had the 03 recently and believe it is a lot more complex and rich in style (quite enjoyed it). 02, Just not impressive.

Been in Margaret on the weekend and so bought a bottle or two at every second cellar door it seemed.

Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling 05
Cape Mentelle Sangiovese 06
Some chardy at Evans and Tate (can't recall now)
A port at Gralyn Estate
Woodlands sparkling pinot chardonnay

a few more that I can't remember and for some reason I came back with a German/Austrian Riesling that one of the wineries is direct importing

Besides the above a few auction purchases this week.

At least my regimen of strictly only buying quaffers is working at the moment :)

cheers

Not a lot this month.

3 bottles of Moss Wood 2004 for the cellar.

And 2 different 2005 Bourgogne to try this week.

September and October look to be more expensive with Clonakilla, Rockfords, Kalleske and Seppelt St. Peters being released.
Premierships and great wine... that is what life is all about

Bought the following this month:

3btls Chateau du Cleray 2005
2btls Cape Mentelle Shiraz 2004
2btls Cono Sur Vision Bio-Bio Riesling 2003

One bottle each of the following:

Chereau Carre Cuvee des Dues 2005
William Fevre 1er Cru Fourchaume 2005 375ml

Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2003
Felton Road Pinot Noir 2005

The Cono Sur wines from Chile are pretty good VFM wines for weekly drinking.

I'm on a 6 month moratorium from buying wine, so only minor slippages:
- mixed case from Tulloch (6x Private Bin, 2 normal shiraz, 2 cab franc, 2 sangiovese)
- case from Tahbilk (6x 2004 cab franc, 2x 2006 cab franc, some older marsanne)
- a few bottles from the Baileys Glenrowan cellar door (different shiraz, young and old tokay)
- Symphonia cellar door stop (King Valley), so some albarino, petit manseng, and their two tempranillos (joven style and reserva style)
- Savaterre visit to collect my 2005s from Keppel (and his loungeroom of wine) [paid for before the moratorium, so doesn't count as a slippage].
- Sorrenberg cellar door visit to grab a few bottles of gamay.
Paul.

Good thread!

For me a top-up purchase of a 99 Ch. Musar, as I do like to have a few in the cellar.

May put some auctions bids in though as some tempting items are coming up (with 'come and get me' low estimates - how easily are we suckered in!)

On that subject, (probably aimed at Craig, but any comments welcomed), how are Te Mata Awatea 96 and Martinborough Reserve Pinot Noir 96 coming along. I'm figuring the latter better than the former?

regards

Ian
