Christmas haul

Post by Kieran »

My Christmas present from my father arrived early, and it felt heavy and unbalanced, something like three bottles of wine.

So, I opened it up, and I'm now the proud owner of

Noon Vat SC2 Dry Red 1990
Noon Unfiltered Grenache 1991
Grosset Gaia 1995

Any TNs or other useful information?

Grosset Gaia 1995
A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot according to the back label, but strangely the same is said of the ’96, '98 and the ’00. A nice nose: red currants, cigar box, a bit of animalé, black currants, earth and smoke. There is some sweet fruit on the palate, red currants and red cherries, tobacco and cedar, with some strong acid, and an underlying savouriness. There is still some grip on the tannins, but it is more of a Nancy-boy weak grip than a manly Walshie clasp of the hands. A dry finish and good length. Needs a small decant, and should go a few more years.
