I know this is a wine site, but it is an Australian one, and as a few of you will know I am a huge music fan, and a singer/songwriter of reasonable ability...but not a smidgen of the ability of one of the greatest musical influences of my life..Australian band from the late seventies/ eighties, and from reforming in 2000, back to fantastic form with their last album Oceans Apart..Brisbanes THE GO BETWEENS.I am sure there are many of you who have fallen to the charms of that great Grant McLennan penned autobiograpical song "Cattle & Cane", or "Bachelor Kisses", or "Streets of Your Town"..just beautiful soundscapes of Brisbane/Queensland..I had the good fortune to see the band twice in NZ..I am devastated to hear that on Saturday, Grant was throwing a party to celebrate his commercial success of "Oceans Apart".
He complained of feeling a bit unwell, and went for a lie down, and was found dead inn his bed by his arriving guests..he was 48 years..
To any fans of the man and his glorious music on this forum, please raise your glasses, and toast in my opinion Australias finest songwriter.
G W Mc LENNAN.
Rossi.
RIP Grant McLennan
RIP Grant McLennan
"Have a good time, all the time".
Well said my friend. Grant was one of the greatest talents in the music world, not just locally but internationally. It is a sad and tragic loss to all Australians and we as music lovers are much the poorer for his passing.
As Rossi said, take a moment and raise your glasses to this incredible talent.
RIP mate, you have done us proud.
