2001 Elderton Shiraz Barossa - Recent Tasting Notes Wanted

Post by jayhawker »

I have a bottle that I'm considering bringing to a party this weekend. If anyone has tried this recently, I'd greatly appreciate your evaluation.

Thanks!

Hi.
I cracked a bottle of this recently, and it was superb. Velvet smooth chocolate, seamless, a tad over oaked, but I didnt mind :D . Rich classic Elderton, and in my opinion one of the better vintages. It is drinking really well, and I predict once you try, youll not want to share at the party!
Cheers.
Rossi.

I agree with Ross and so would old rawnsley. one of the better eldertons and very traditional barossa

Ross has a good description

One consideration is though it isnt really a summer wine in my opinion.

Sorry to digress a little, but I am working my way through the 96 Elderton shiraz which is an absolute delight- the veritable, cellarable under $20 bargain.

If you ever see it at auction, don't hesitate, it will be going strong for a good number of years.
