Sorrenberg 2023 release

Soo sorrenberg just released their 2023 gamay and Sauvignon Blanc semillion.

I have some of their 2022 gamay which was quite nice. I’ll definitely get their 2023, but am not sure of their Sauvignon Blanc semillion.

I’m throwing up between the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc semillion, or Tyrrell’s 2017 stevens semillion.

Has anyone had any experience with either? Any guidance?

Don't buy the SSB ..... means there will be more for me
However I have had their gamay before and there are much better offerings from France for similar money. Didn't work for me.

Yes I’ll keep my eye on it. They released that in November with the red blend. There is too much stuff I want to buy

Here is my note from the 2014 tried recently

2014 Sorrenberg Gamay (Beechworth)
Much darker in colour than the left glass, not sure of the commonality of this wine yet, as this looks and smells completely different. Lots of Mint, Spearmint and Eucalyptus. This is very young and still crunchy dark fruits, this has a fair bit of oak that is a little distracting at present. Those fruits feel new world, so rich and primary. Cant get over that eucalypt note. This is only just ok, curious to see what it is, doesn’t feel old world and not really enjoying it at its current stage of development. Cant believe this is a sorrenberg….. bit disappointed if im honest from this high quality producer, I would expect more and I wouldn’t be rushing out to buy it.

I picked up a few bottle of the SBS a few months ago at MW - it was release mid Feb for $59. Wierd if mailing list members have just received it

I received the mailer too, but will pass. I don't mind Gamay, but don't like it enough to pay $55.00. It may well be a good buy for someone that is really into the variety. The same for the Sem/Sauv Blanc.

It was the ‘23 vintage. They also had the 22 Chardonnay ($129), 22 Gamay ($89)and 21 Cabernet ($71) as part of the offer. Sent out on 16/02. I picked the wine up a week later along with an auction purchase.

My preferred style of gamay is red fruits, fresh and drinks perfectly now.

It's a bbq / food wine to be enjoyed now with friends and family.

Am kicking myself that I didn’t buy the Chardonnay in November ! Oh well. And interesting to see that M&W appeared to have access to it earlier. They still have the gamay and Cabernet blend available.

I’ve a number of cases of Cru Beojolais I bought when all the hype locally. What a waste of effort! Could have bought Burgundy cheaply back then or even better, $60 Mascarello etc !

Not bad to cellar but agree probably a better drink young.

the gamay is one of my favourite Australian red wines, but you need to cellar it for a minimum of 10 years in good vintages, 6-7 in lesser years.
the 2013 is currently stupendous.
depending on the vintage, it contains a fair whack of pinot noir, which really gives it complexity and takes away the "flatness" I too often see in Beaujolaise .

I purchased two cases of the 2016 SSB, still have one case unopened. Hyped to the max by the critics, but so far, even the cheap stuff from entre deux mers is better. Will try again at age 10, but so far its a "no" for me.
The chardonnay is fabulous, I prefer it to nearby Giaconda, but its not in the current release.

The Cabernet is a smart wine too, but not my jam.

The SSB is a stunning wine - I try not to miss out.

The 2016 is superb, as is 17 - the 21 no slacker either. Each 2016 we've had has been a joyous ride. Crazy VFM, I've enjoyed the 2016 as much as any local wine over past decade.
