TN: Coriole "Old House" Shiraz 2013

Post by Waiters Friend »

This is one of a couple of shiraz from Coriole under the 'Scarce Earth Project' moniker. Decanted 3 hours before service.

Purple / crimson in colour and quite dense. Intense red plum and mulberry nose, with vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, mocha and just a hint of leather. The palate follows the fruit theme, with a wash of rich red fruits over supporting but not obtrusive tannins and acid. More medium bodied than full bodied, but the finish is quite long.

Quite a satisfying wine - rich and ripe without being over the top. Probably will improve for a year or two more, and drink well for another 5.

Cheers

Cracked my last bottle of this tonight. Decanted about 90 minutes before service.

The colour does not appear to have shifted significantly from my last tasting in 2020.

The nose has shifted slightly towards the red fruits spectrum, although mulberries remain prominent, and the plethora of spices noted previously still remain. The hint of leather has grown slightly, and fruit and savoury characters are fairly well balanced overall.

The palate also remains balanced, with red and blue fruits flowing across the tongue, and tannins and acid present but not dominating. Medium to long finish, and a surprising punch of flavour at the very end.

Probably not likely to improve. A good time to drink this final bottle.

Cheers
