TN: Myattsfield "Left Field Club" Viognier 2023

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

Myattsfield Vineyards, in the Perth hills, offer quite an extensive range of wines. In addition, they experiment with some smaller batches or unusual grape varieties, and the past 12 months has seen a Montepulciano and a Nero D'Avola, among others. These smaller batch wines are first released through their membership base, the Left Field Club.

They have made a Viognier previously, but not for a few years. This is a welcome return. The fruit is sourced from the Chittering Valley, noth east of Perth.

Pale straw in colour. The nose shows pleasing musk sticks and trademark apricot, not overpowering as some Viognier can be. The palate shows more of the apricot, some ginger, lemongrass, and is well supported by cleansing acid. This avoids the cloying that can accompany some Viogniers. There's a slight degree of oiliness only.

This is a clean, well-made wine showing plenty of interest, and its also quite refreshing, even thirst-quenching.

Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
