Yes, I ordered 4 of each = 16 bottles. Getting them delivered to a clandestine address so Mrs Hacker won't notice.

I bought 2 and the Lamella and 1 of the Standish. No room and I really only like old wine, so a bit of a bizarre one.

6 x 2021 John Duval Annexus Shiraz.

Was blown away by the 2021 A. Grenache and 2021 A. Mataro - 2 of the best examples from these varieties so bought this wine sight unseen.

In addition to the previously mentioned Standish's, 6 x 2021 Yarra Yering Dry Red No1. I was given advice from a wine e-tailer that because of the very high scores from a couple of wine reviewers there may be none left for retail distribution when released in a years time. $150 at YY cellar door, but to me this is as good as cabernet gets.

Possibly going to YY CD this Sunday...$50 tasting fee, non-refundable but can guess why with one of the owners being an arrogant so and so, who would sell his granny to make a buck...but karma going through a messy divorce now :D :D I have been informed that the pours are 'generous' but should I buy just one bottle it will cost me $200!
I'll see how I go, looking at visiting Great Western tomorrow

Will be interesting to see if this happens. Seems like there is a lot of Yarra Yering made…have seen the stuff at Costco, and also at a lot of Vintage Cellars.

Also would be poor business strategy to not hold any #1 back for retail…YY has a lot of other wines to shift, retailers will be less inclined to take the other wines if they can’t have any of the #1.

Also think it will be interesting to see how you go. My group had a very average experience at YY CD a few years ago, complete disinterest from who was behind the counter, wines did not show well.

Ended up with:
3 X Standish Lamella, 2 X Standish, Schubert, Relic

I’m probably going to look at a couple of the YY but no more at the price. Hard to pass up something with a 100 point score… yes I’m a sucker for it and need to add one or two to the cellar…

Cheers Ed

Absolutely no purchases for last 3 months after coming down with an ailment that precludes alcohol intake. I just sit and watch Mrs Chuck enjoy wines while I enjoy the aromas in my glass. I'm on the mend though and have to be better when we do a 2 month+ tour of Europe from September. Doing one of those round the world business class tickets with long flights and plan to ask the flight attendants to just leave the drinks trolley next to me. Plenty of time to enjoy the food and drinks, sleep and sober up.

Nothing I really wanted at this months MW Auction, but still I found a reason to put a few bids in

1* 1962 Queen Adelaide Claret, Woodley Wines
2 * 1979 Somlo Ausbruch Muscat-Ottonel Desert Wine
1* 1984 Durif, Morris
1* 1984 Durif, Stanton and Killeen
1* 1986 Durif Stanton & Killeen
1* 1990 Bin 707
2 * 2003 Polish River Riesling, O’Leary

Happy memories from the 84 Morris Durif and now have a few bottles for a tasting flight. Never heard of Woodley Wines, but people were bidding $200 + for the a similar bottle with a better label, and this is worth a punt for $80.

The 79 Pieroth looks like it comes from Germany, but it’s actually Hungarian. Probably dead, but I have had some 60’s Romanian desert wines with the same grapes and they were stunnning.

Ahh Woodleys wines. Originated in Glen Osmond in South Australia, top of Cross Rd, start of the freeway. In the 1800s/early 1900s a winery and vineyards, in a suburb called Woodley...long gone now through urban sprawl. The special Woodley wines were the famed Treasure Chest Series from Coonawarra. Made by Bill Redman, from 1949-56 and involved Tony Nelson (winemaker at Woodleys and I think involved with Wynns).
I remember an Oddbins wine auction in about 1990 when a complete set was put up, fetched a few thousand.

The contemporary Woodley wines/name were continued by Southcorp in the 80s, with a Queen Adelaide Riesling and Claret. Sold for about $5 and were mainstays in bottle shops across the country. Remember punters either optioning for a carton of QA Riesling or Hardy's Old Castle Riesling ( made by Brian Croser).

I wish we had the same set up here in SA. Heaven forbid you could actually purchase alcohol in the same place that you get fruit and vegetables!!!
For the supposed wine state, we still live in the 1960s.

The Woodley's Treasure Chest series wines from the 50's are legendary. They were Coonawarra wines made by Bill Redman for Woodley's and really heralded the emergence of Coonawarra as a premium wine making area. Was fortunate to try the 55 and 56 Treasure Chest Clarets some years ago now at a Coonawarra Masterclass tasting. They were stunning wines. I imagine they are almost unobtanium now.
