Mount Pleasant

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've received a missive from Mount Pleasant which tells me that they are effectively refocussing their wine offerings - I think reinventing is the current catchphrase. I recall them doing this aroound 2011 when Hunter Semillon was released as a young wine, with a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc - I don't know how long that lasted.

This one is offering aged semillon (5 years, which used to be the standard release) and the current range seems to at least somwhat reflect days gone by. However, having been stung by the reinvention 10 years ago, I am cautious about what is on offer. Does anyone have recent experience with this winery, and not just the semillons. There's a range of reds on offer as well.

Thanks
Allan

Hi Allan - I’ve got a few 2017 Mountain ‘A’ Shiraz that I picked up for a reasonable price but have yet to sample them. Not much help, hopefully some others have a bit more to offer.
Cheers Ed

I don't think anyone can really say that they have recent experience with Mt Pleasant. Was sold as part of the McWilliams bankruptcy - new owners and the cellar door has only just reopened (I think). Probably need a response from someone living in the Hunter for where exactly they are up to.
Certainly the development of dated vineyard wines seems to be continuing - at least some have been reviewed on Winefront
I'm interested - often my favourite Hunter reds but getting outside my price bracket
