Er no. Superfluous junk, but an excellent metaphor from their dumb arse marketing dept...sky rocketing prices
I'll wait for the ball and chain edition. 2010 was my last 389 purchase...Pennie's certainly don't need me.
Looking forward to lining up the Adelina with a few Wendouree's

Penfolds need to attract a new audience... because they've pissed off the people who used to buy their wines

A Baccarat Crystal Ampoule? I found your comparison of the rocket with sky-rocketing prices quite amusing. Frankly speaking I would be embarrassed to buy that as a gift let alone for myself, not that I would even consider buying it at current prices.

N.V. Grand Muscat x 2

Chapeau to Watervale Hotel. Lunch with friends while the winter rain blasted outside.... open fire etc.
food was top notch. really really good.
Did a shared menu etc. Highly recommend.

You'll enjoy the WDC's great expressions of central/Heathcote Shiraz and pretty good VFM. I always go for the Springflat and a few of the Yellow Hammer Hill...really nice blend of a Shiraz/Malbec/Cabernet(80/10/10). Good offset from similar Clare blends.

16th straight year of buying from WDCE but have reduced the annual purchase from 12 to 6 for the last three years as I am diversifying my cellar and generally buying fewer 'big' wines.
4 x 2020 Springflat Shiraz
2 x 2020 Ducks & Drakes Cabernet Blend (as there are no Alan's Cabernets in 2020)

Trying a new producer based on Winefront reviews and their winemaker (Rob Mack from Aphelion)
3 x 2021 in praise of shadows Grenache
1 x 2020 ipos Grenache
1 x 2021 ipos Yabai Monastrell/Touriga/Graciano
1 x 2021 ipos Mankai Garnacha/Monastrell/Touriga/Graciano
Bonum Vinum Laetificat Cor Hominis

I have stopped buying the WDCE wines as of a few years ago, as I found the alcohol a little distracting. But when they are on song, they certainly are excellent wines.
I also dipped in for some of the IPOS Grenache. They do sound impressive and I’ll be going long on ‘21 Grenache from McLaren Vale and Barossa.

6 x 2018 Massena Stonegarden Grenache
6 x 2021 In Praise of Shadows Grenache
3 x 2018 Turket Flat Shiraz
3 x 2018 Brothers at War Single Vineyard Grenache (comes from the Stonegarden Vineyard, same as Massena)

Cheers,
Ian

It's been a few years since I had one of these, but it never used to disappoint. Enough complexity out of the gate, yet it also aged well over the medium term. Price was always very fair as well.

Agree, for what is supposed to be their flagship, may I even venture to suggest underpriced?

Agree with Craig's comments, I also really like the wines. I just paid for my allocation today - went a mixed case of Col Mountain GMS, Dabbler Cabernet Carmenere (in lieu of the Alan’s Cabernet), and Yellow Hammer Hill Shiraz Malbec Cabernet Blend.
I usually buy the Springflat each year, but at 15% alc, gave it a miss this year and went the Col Mountain instead.
I had a 2018 Yellow Hammer Hill on the weekend, it was gorgeous, plenty of time on its side.

Was most fortunate to try it 3 years ago at a tasting Dave held at Ed Cellars....lovely, but $750 vs. 17 bottles of Springflat ($44), yeah nah.

Enjoyed many a glass of the Duck Muck while bottling either the 1999 or 2000 vintage of magnums when at cellar door. My partner sprayed the bottles with a sulfur solution, another fellow filled the bottles (and our glasses) and I operated the corking machine. The Duck Muck drank beautifully straight out of the stainless steel tank and into the glass.

It was a fun afternoon and evening with Dave Anderson and his staff.

Sounds like a disaster letting amateurs involved. Times have since changed.
