Yes will likely do same, are helping out with picking in a couple of weeks. Think a dozen BP for the 18-21 vintages will be a standard order, then I may bow out...300 bottles is surely enough!!

Managed to track down 2 bottles of Gilles Berlioz 2016 Les Filles. This was bought retail and they are on the 20 Vintage in Europe, so it’s sat around for a while. Hopefully it will be fine - it’s a wine that should still be going strong at 10 years of age.

Picked up a bottle of 57 Blue Nun at auction tonight. That was one of the wine parents and grand parents enjoyed when I was young, when it had a poor reputation. Long ago though, this would have sold for similar prices to Bdx Fist Growths. Unlike Chenin, rieslings of this age in my experience are a bit bit and miss, but you never know.

Also added a few wines from Chile and a splashed out on an ‘18 Bruno Clair Corton Charlemange and an 01 Laurent Mazis Chambertin.

I hope this particular bottle was not priced similar to equivalent Bdx 1st growths!
It just sounds mad to me if you say you want to get a bottle of 1957 Blue Nun but I am fascinated to hear how it turns out...

Everything is expensive at the moment, but this was under $40. Too much, but it will make for a fun tasting.

A few years ago a friend opened a cheap 1988 Leibfraumilch that had been stored under the stairs at the in-laws . Not great, but nothing wrong with it either. That was sealed with a screw cap - a sign of cheap wine in the 80’s - but the ‘57 will be with cork and will have suffered.

Certainly in my (drinking) lifetime, Blue Nun has been awful, but there are a number of wines that started off way better than the wines they became, so it's clearly worth opening and sniffing / tasting. One such one to look out for are 1950s/60s bottles of Harveys Bristol Cream (and their now discontinued Bristol Milk as well). They should still be alive, well and interesting.

It really is interesting seeing old wine lists, as indeed there was nothing like the price differences we see today, with branded wines indeed priced remarkably close to wines that today we think of as 'great'. It's difficult to say whether that was more crazy than some of the prices paid for Burgundy these days  Definitely one extreme to the other.

Hi Craig.

Thanks, hope they’re as good on the inside as they look on the outside. Also hope I make it in 30 years time.

Actually one of the Explorer made by Harry Tinson at Baileys cost more than the set.

I think there’s two idiots in Australia that don’t know when to stop and one of them is me.

The 1951 Amontillado Sherry is the one that caught my eye. It should be brilliant if any of my old Australian sherries are anything to go by.

Those fortifieds all looked great Con. I thought about bidding on the 2 single Saltrams, but they seemed lonely without the box. At least you can drink 2 and keep the set complete.

I noticed the price of the Emerald take off during the week. Is this a known wine ? Could not find a lot about it on the net.

The only thing I know about them is that they were made at Baileys, don’t even know if the fruit comes from Baileys. Had a 1958 old tawny back in 2016 and from memory it was very nice.

If knows anything about them I’d love to know. Could it have been made for a retailer?

Cheers Con.

So the level is fine for the age. The label is peeling off slightly and it looks like the the humidity may have been drier and I wanted . Not bad though and through the brown glass it looks like it’s in a fair shape.

I've still got my boxed set, complete with certificate. Were these on Langtons? I must have owned mine for around 20 years - haven't found much about them online.
