August purchases
Re: August purchases
I picked up some stuff at auction:
83, 2*90, 2*93 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon
1*76 Yalumba Riesling
1*09 Gonon St Joseph
+ a few bottles bottles of 60’s and 70’s reds from a mixed lot.
I like the MW system for bidding, but I really don’t understand why they don’t photograph all the wines. The Riesling had a good fill, but I think it looks a bit dark - would not have bought it if I had seen a good photo.

Thank you Sam - I should have shown more patience. I received the email at about 3:45pm and returned it by 4:00pm. Fingers crossed.sjw_11 wrote:Check your email... I had it in my mind that September 1st might be the special day (Today). Thanks for your help!Michael McNally wrote:Also a dozen each of the final Marius vintage - sad, but great to have been able to have access to these incredible wines at a price I could afford. The prices have barely budged in the 15 years I have been buying (Simpatico up frpm $25 for the 2004 to $33 for the 2019; Symphony from $35 to $44 over the same period and vintages). I have never sold a bottle, and have given precious few to special friends and taken to special dinners and offlines to share the love.
I am hoping the 180 bottles in my cellar will last me at least the next 25 years.....
Cheers

I do not like the mw system, in my opinion they do a bad job at describing fill levels on burgundy shaped bottles, for some reason they don't use cm from cork. If I recall correctly screwcap bottles are also not always marked as such and I was unhappy with damage on some of my screwcaps once. Postage for one bottle over a case is also a killer.mychurch wrote:I picked up some stuff at auction:

As a buyer not sure how you could like the bidding system! Good for sellers thoughAlex F wrote:I do not like the mw system, in my opinion they do a bad job at describing fill levels on burgundy shaped bottles, for some reason they don't use cm from cork. Re: August purchases
MW wow there’s a blast from the past. Loved them 20 years ago at the live auctions in Brunswick. So entertaining. The new owners took the fun out of it. Remember the mystery bottle? Is it Grange or Jacob’s Creek? Folks would bid somewhere in between and a great laugh.

Yes agree, everything now reflects the digital age
Used to love going to the Oddbins monthly live auctions up at the old Stonyfell function centre. Buy a few cases and afterwards could open some (free corkage) and have dinner at the restaurant.
Those were the days
Cheers Craig
