Yes, difficult to fault their selection, though I imagine the cost is quite something.
It is indeed Ian.

She has actually signed me up for the Wine Club at the Dunkeld Hotel, which I believe has one of the finest wine lists in Australasia. As well as the wine, I get a 2 night stay, a bound copy of the wine list, a cloth to wipe the dust off the bottles and....a pencil

If you go by the book value of the wines on the list, then there are some expensive wines in that bundle. The Mazis and the Jamet are both over the $300 mark. Those are old wines though, bought when wine prices were not what they are now. I imagine its a good way for the cellar to get rid of the odd older bottle that is not selling. Kudos to the somelliars though - the Croatian wine and the Verget ($25 in Melbourne) are exactly the sort of wines I enjoy.

Love those wines! The 2017 Guardiola and 2010 Prephylloxera had recently were superb.

For me thus far:
1 x 2017 Primo Estate Moda cabernet merlot 1.5l (wanted this daughter's birth year vintage but they shipped a 2016 by mistake - kept both...)
3 x 2017 Standish Lamella
3 x 2017 Standish The Standish

And some auction shenanigans:
1 x NV Bleasdale sparkling shiraz
1 x 2001 Clarendon Hills Liandra
1 x 2008 Jasper Hill Cornaella Vineyard Grenache
1 x 2012 Langmeil Valley Floor shiraz
1 x 2001 Leasingham Classic Clare shiraz 1.5l
2 x NV Morris Old Premium Liqueur Tokay
1 x 1995 Penfolds Koonunga Hill shiraz
1 x 1993 Peter Lehmann Stonewell shiraz
2 x Saltram Winemakers Selection Limited Release shiraz temperanillo

Curious what that goes for in NZ ... I just glanced at a couple of stores I buy from and that is sharply priced (and not in a good way). I like the wines of Etna but I think I would struggle to pay €95 for one.

To be fair, I know a few people who absolutely love these wines so maybe I am just being "labelist".

9570 JPY for the 2010 Pre-Phylloxera, and worth it IMHO compared to recent similarly-priced wines.

5,929 JPY for the Guardiola. I'd rather drink these than similarly priced pinot and the same ilk. Very ageworthy IMHO.

These are both including tax in Japan which is pricey to begin with.

The bundled six pack worked out at €44/bottle. The pre phylloxera bottle is obviously much rarer and more expensive but not available on it is own in its own, but the “list price” was about €70.

Terrason import as well as make wine. Just ordered a mystery mix of Jura and Burgundy. $25 a bottle for wine from this area with bottle age is well worth taking a punt on.

After last nights fantastic 1990 Vouvray, I have order a mixed case with

3 * 64 Pinon Vouvray Demi-Sec
3 * 89 Pinon Vouvray Moelluex
3 * 04 Pinon Vouvray Demi-Sec
3 * 16 Provignage, Henri Marrionet (Romorantin)

Pinon an excellent (and great value) producer.

I've drunk the 1989 (I thought more than once, but just 1 note in CT). Here's that note from 2012 (as ever, ignore the label image shown by CT, but mine was the 1er trie)
  • 1989 François Pinon Vouvray Moelleux Premiere Trie - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (16/12/2012)
Lemon-gold coloured with an intriguingly nose that mixes apricot skin and honey with something more savoury along the lines of crushed bran-flakes.
Some sweetness on the palate but less than you'd expect, and it's complex and diverse in flavours. Apricot/apricot skin, plus orange zest/grapefruit, mixed with fennel and a hint of butter. Long finish that finishes almost dry with just a touch of bitterness.
    Really fine.

Should be lots of enjoyment.

Ian

It’s that bitterness on the finish that really makes Loire Chenin. Hope my bottles will be as good. Can’t find any local stockists, so these are all coming from France.

The 64s I believe are direct from the Cellars. Should be fine - I’ve drunk a few 64’s from Bredif and Huet and they were good.

My mixed case arrived from Terrason. 8 whites, 4 reds, 10 Jura, 2 Burgs. Other than adding in a bottle of Vin Jaune, I don’t think they could have chosen better.

Missed out on Lamella sadly (due to personal ineptitude and procrastination) but grabbed a 6 pack of 2018 The Standish. Will buy some 6 packs of 2019 Barry Florita

Some clearance stuff from a sale...silly prices but who is to complain
4 '13 Petaluma Coonawarra
4 '18 Bowen Shiraz
6 '17 Steingarten Riesling (brought 12 but passed 6 on), have tried one, in a bit of a dumb phase and a fraction too much sweetness on the end palate, lacking a fraction of granny smith acid, but happy to put the other 5 to bed
4 '14 Paracombe Shiraz
4 '15 Woodstock Shiraz
6 '16 Ingoldby Cabernet/Shiraz/Malbec, tried one smashing wine for $5...very good, what's not to love

Might be some more, depending what's around/left over.
Cheers Craig

Craig,

I have back vintages of the Bowen, Steingarten, and Woodstock, so I am curious about the "silly prices" if that's okay with you.

Cheers ................... Mahmoud.

Mahmoud, without offending Gavin and pretty safe that I won't since you are in Canada (hope all is good re Covid and the unrest below you), I picked these up from a couple of places.
Respectively in order of your post $20, 10 and 9 each.

Interestingly re Woodstock it was a SA icon, the coterie was the place to go in the 80s for lunch (often :D ), 21sts, weddings etc and was great for the MV gourmet weekend before being cancelled with busloads of wine swirllers and spewers!!
Sad to say its fallen off the perch a bit and like so many others diversification of labels has diversified the product...badly.
I brought a dozen Shiraz and Cabernet from 1986 to 2000 and every vintage of the stocks from 91-04...at close to $100 now not worth the money, nor is the Collett Shiraz/cab at $150 aimed at supporting someone's superannuation. The Botrytis Semillon is a lovely wine.

Ben Glaetzer at the helm re wine-making duties has helped, but half the label's need the axe, MV Traminer for God's sake!!

More memory lane stuff!!

Cheers Craig

I forgot to list some purchases from a well know Italian wine shop (in Rome) that is now operating online. They sent me one bottle extra of the Il Falcone by accident, so I offered to pay for it (they said no - enjoy it)

2x Mezza Bottiglia Satrico 2018 Casale Del Giglio 375ml
1x Gattinara DOCG 2016 Travaglini
1x Mezza Bottiglia Colli Orientali dei Friuli DOC Pinot Grigio 2017 Livio Felluga 375ml
2x Erbaluce Di Caluso DOCG 2019 Ferrando Vini
4x (ended up as 5x) Castel del Monte Rosso Riserva DOCG Il Falcone 2014 Rivera
2x Mezza Bottiglia Fiano Di Avellino DOCG 2017 Feudi Di San Gregorio 375 ml
1x Brachetto D'Acqui DOCG 2018 Tenimenti Ca' Bianca
1x Piemonte DOC Brachetto Castello Del Poggio

Great getting some half bottles - always so useful to have a selection of them

Yes indeed, like I indicated at the start of this thread, the upcoming Marius and Wendouree train has curtailed many 'casual' purchases. Can't buy everything
