Squid Ink Sparkling Shiraz: sexy, sweet black fruit, sensual - best at about 15 degrees. Glides over the palate. Not as complex as the Rockford but still wonderful value when reduced to $27 a bottle.

100% agree here. Soft, silky mousse and mouthfeel. Perfectly judged dosage. Not overly sweet or porty, and interestingly its not a spicy/peppery shiraz either. Blackberries and milk chocolate. Wouldnt pick it as McLaren vale, and its not that complex, but it doesnt matter. This is a wonderful wine for the $27 it cost. Wish i bought more than 6, as this is a really wonderful sparkling shiraz i will drink over the summer (and run out of)..... onto the coates soon

2011 Brokenwook ILR Reserve Semillon

The thing that stood out for me with this wine was the length.... so powerful, so intense, yet
so good..... just went on and on and on.

Nothing overblown just everything in the right place. Beeswax in the mouth, not oily, again just perfectly judged.
Citrus of lemon/lime, a bit of talc and some slately/minerals. Slight Grassy note and perfectly balanced
acid. Loved it

Had some '09 Shea Wine Cellars 'Shea Vineyards' Cahrdonnay, Oregon (14.5%) - the fruit has faded and all that's left is a very woody shell. Amerian chardonnays just do not have the staying power of Australian and NZ chardonnays. (The '09 Greywhacke earlier this year is the first to come to mind) Then the rest of a 2010 Clos du Soleil 'Signature', British Columbia, Canada (13.6%) that was opened and sampled earlier in the day. A Bordeaux blend that is half merlot and the rest being cabernet, malbec and petit verdot. Dry, elegant and restrained in the day, by evening it had developed fleshy, sweet fruit. Nice but perplexing.

Now finishing the last of the N/V Sevenhill Touriga Port, yumm.....

Absolutely not misjudging it as i had the same thoughts. It was just so drinkable and approachable now, will it get better? How long will it age? All running through my head. But geee watch out if it does get better.... will be a 103 point wine

I'm both impressed and jealous. I'd love to know the alcohol level, bet you it was low, as was many of the older wines.

2016 Ashton Hills Pinot Noir Piccadilly Valley, Adelaide Hills

Light to medium bodied. Savoury fruit displaying raspberries, strawberries, a touch of spice and forest floor. Fine tannins and very good finish. A well balanced and very enjoyable wine. Drink now to 5 years.

2009 Soldera - less thumbprint on it than the 2008- lovely mouth feel and perfume
2012 Anne Gros Echezaux - such a feminine style
2009 Bartolo Mascarello barolo- wonderful style light and long but eventually became kinda sulky
1995 Rousseau Beze this is why burgundy is thrilling
2001 Rayas - double blind once again I call this a burgundy .....I love this maker
2010 Masseto thrills spills and bellyaches - brilliant
1975 Ferdinand Pieroth Monchhofer Pfaffenberg trockenbeerenauslese eiswein - tasted like an old d'yquem

2002 Stonyridge Larose actually v young
2005 Jadot csj excellent no rush to drink
2007 Pegau cuvee de capo - i prefer the regular cndp - too big for me

2009 2010 Oliver Bernstein Charmes gc - bit dominated by the maker - dominating lumpy

good call on the Bernstein Michel, no doubt he worked both those vintages to the max. Indeed, he actually made better wines in 2007, when he basically couldn't do too much with them.

Hmmm, gold pen writing in the corner you say. Sounds very much like the kind of writing on the bottle that my partner got at cellar door, except that ours was in silver. During the manual bottling David Anderson went into office at the side and put a front label on the bottle. There was no vintage on the label, nor the name Duck Muck, so he wrote the vintage and name of the wine on the back of the bottle. It is likely that the gold writing you saw was the vintage.

I've been impressed enough with older Altare I've cellared Arborina and Cannubi. Having been stereotyped and fallen out of fashion, quite well priced especially from underrated vintages- 2008 and 2006 ( underhyped a better word)

Ten Minutes By Tractor 10X Pinot Noir 2015 - Sourced from various Mornington Peninsula vineyards, handpicked, 95% destemmed and got a wild yeast ferment with manual plunging. Ten months in French oak barrels, 15% new. This is just an entry level pinot, but shows quality. An extra year of bottle age, which helps smooth out a pinot like this. Dark cherry, rhubarb, spice and hints of earth and undergrowth. A clean, robust feel to it that also has dusty, oak-influenced tannins. The finish gets better with air.

Pepperjack Certified Shiraz Cabernet 2016 - A trophy winner at the Great Australian Red competition this year. I can see why. Purpley colour and intense. Rich black fruits, red cherry, licorice and spice. Gobfuls of generous sweet fruit, mocha oak and soft, dry tannins. Ramped up to get your attention (and it does) with loads of drinking appeal and quick satisfaction. This is physical, not cerebral. Really instead of writing a tasting note on this, I should just open a second bottle that I got.

Sean, not tried it, but the cynic in me says TWE new label to go with one of their best sellers + trophy = I can see why

2004 Pavie still very tannic and a little closed. Pretty good, but will never be anything special. 89pts

2009 Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin nice bright red fruits, good length but still all-in-all a simple wine. Not a patch on the Fourrier version of the same vintage. This Domaine's reputation is forged on it's stellar top three wines, the rest represent pretty poor value for money IMO. 88pts

2001 Rieussec Still pretty young, but showing well. Over-hyped at release, and not anywhere near the lofty standards of d'Yquem, Suduiraut and Climens from that vintage. Give it another 5 years. 91pts

By Top 3 do you mean Chambertin, Beze and CSJ?
I actually think the Charmes and CdlR are pretty good value..actually a lot of the lesser GCs are of decent value..although I do think the quality can be quite variable...but you're looking at 200-300 (USD)...Compared to the Gevrey which is around 100 USD and not worth it at all...the prices of the top 3 make them very questionable value wise as well....
