2008 mount mary quin. cork pristine. Where do i start on this one? Lovely perfume, floral and dark cherry aromas .medium bodied palate. Tannin structure light and focsued with a long long lingering finish. Very graceful, elegant wine. Everything in harmony drink it now I reckon.

06 Right bank is drinking well, if still a little young. Certainly more accessible than the left bank. yea, a decant and it should be fine. IMO, 06 is an under-rated vintage, and therefore represents good buying.

Thanks Felix. I've never had a CnDP with any serious (>10yrs) age on it but I'm keen to give it a shot so have Long term cellared. I'm very partial to Pegau when young so that's been the choice.

So CellarTracker (which I find usually understates or rather underestimates windows) has that in a good spot, factoring MAGNUM size, maybe a little longer? 2010 Hoddles Creek 1er Pinot Noir - Too much alcohol heat on opening, some of that blew off and left a clunky middling expression of Pinot Noir, a bit of oak, in general it leaves little of interest for me. Neither elegant or floral, nor complex or earthy, nor fresh with juicy acid.
My second bottle of this wine (the last tasted 4 years ago) and I still remain unimpressed. Maybe it will magically turn around in time, but I haven't seen it yet.

1999 Charles Cimicky Signature Barossa Shiraz. 14%. Cork. Auction. A good bottle with a sound (unsoaked) cork. Some browning but still good colour. Fruit is still there in the background as a kind of blackberry support, but this is really secondary, and tertiary with lots of leather, spice and old wood. Finish is very good with long finely resolved tannin sustaining the flavours well. As I said. A good bottle.

2010 Woodlands Margaret: Nice wine with silky tannins. Good balance with the fruit and acid. Probably sill got a few years before it is in its window. It will probably stay there for a decade.

Back on the wine last night 2010 Produttori del Barbaresco and a Frank Cornelissen Rosso del Contadino. Both amazing fresh and delicious.

Had a 1998 Pierre Peters Cuvee Special, the precurser to Chetillons. In a good place, rich, soft, buttery and toasty. Doubt it will get better than this.
Also 2006 Henschke Mt Edelstone, finally it has added weight and interest and can now be included in the better, or best of the marque. Previously others and I thought something was missing with the 2006, but it is there now! Lovely wine.

Tonight with home made pork and morel pierogi, Ramey Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2014 and Au Bon Climat Santa Barbara county Chardonnay 2014.
Both quality wines with enough acidity to keep them inline. I'm told it was an early and drought vintage but without heat spikes. AVAs along the coast were thought to do well with PN and Chardonnay.
The ABC was riper showing peach with the lemon on the nose. The oak seemed disjointed on the palate and not all quiet together on the first night. We drank half the bottle and saved the rest for today. It seemed much better the next day. Beautiful nose and a fuller body than the Ramey.
The Ramey was a little tighter and more inline with what the boss and I have been enjoying at home recently. Powerful nose backed up with good acidity. Good length on the palate.
Great way to finish a holiday.

1996 Ornellaia Masseto
best Merlot out of Italy, and amongst the best going around. Sadly, my second-to-last bottle of this vintage, which is a favourite of mine. This vintage, the wine is a little more restrained than, say, the massive vintages like 1997. Beautiful acid cut, deep black fruits, spice and a hint of anise. Glorious drinking. Purchased when the prices (even in Australia) were not absurd. As good as all but the very very top tier of Right Bank, indeed, I would drink this in front of Cheval any day.
now, this is $1000/bottle, which is sadly justified in the current pricing structure. Awesome experience, 97pts.
on another note, anyone here remember the DeBurgh-Day era? Haha, I used to purchase Miani Merlot from him in the early 90's for $20 a bottle. The same wine is now also about $500 bottle Why I remember it well, is because of the price, I used it as a great "quaffing" wine, and remember thinking it was ridiculously good for the price. Now of course, it would be opened with due reverence and respect, and offers a totally drinking experience. Funny hiw price changes our perception of wine, even if sub-consciously.

2007 Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon Stoney Vineyard
Clear, medium intensity purple showing very little signs of age.
Nose was clean and had pronounced notes of red berries, chinese 5 spice, menthol, eucalyptus.
Dry, medium acidity, medium plus but fine tannins, full bodied. Flavours of red berries, raspberries, blueberries, drying tannins and some oak flavours. Finish was medium plus.
Overall I really enjoyed this wine. It hasn't really moved much, possibly tannins feel a bit more fine compared to last time I had this, about 3 years ago. Didn't really go well with the food I had (8 course vegan tasting meal) but the wine on its own was very nice.
1 bottle left and I think i'll have it in about 5 years time. 90pts+
Also had a 2006 Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz which I didn't take notes on, but this too was very drinkable. A bit typical Barossa, but not over the top. Was really good for the $$ I think $20 a the time.

...so not bad drinking last night.... OMG Coche is stellar. 2011 Meursault-Perrieres was incredible.

Only ever had one Coche before and that was about 10 years ago.
