Help: Wine/Winery info?

Post by Lucinda »

Can anyone help me some info on the following wines/wineries?

Considering purchasing cases at auction (without tasting) but am struggling to find any decent info - don't know whether they're worth the effort.

Stone Bridge Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2000
Stone Bridge Cognilio Nero Sangiovese 2000
Stone Bridge Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2001
Hillstowe Sauvignon Blanc 2001
Hillstowe Udys Mill Pinot Noir 2001

Many thanks!

Don't know Stone Bridge but several regions had ordinary vintages in 2000.

As a general rule, Sauvignon Blanc is best drunk young so 2001s may not be as fresh as you'd like.

Hillstow Pinot is nothing special

According to Halliday, The Udy's mill is rating 89, RRP $30, drink to 06. Says it's maybe too domesticated.

The Hillstowe Sav Blanc isn't listed in the best vintages.

Stone Bridge is Manjimup, and has an interest in fizz - the daughter appears to work in Champagne also. RRPs are $20-30.

Thanks, guys.

Didn't bother with the Hillstowe but have scored the Stone Bridge. Noted that the Cab Merlot was listed under Margaret River region, but actually come from further south in Manjimup.....bit misleading but hopefully no disappointment in the glass.

Did read in my searchings that this wine was lauded as possibly the first 'cult wine' from Pemberton, though no cut through in market presence/sales....who determines these things?
