Do you use Vivino on Android? A Study.

Post by BrandonS »

Hi Guys,

I really hope this isn't considered an inappropriate post and I am happy to take this down if I'm breaking a forum rule. I'm doing some studies at RMIT university as a mature-age student and one of the requirements for an upcoming assignment is to conduct a survey of the usability of an app in the current marketplace of your smartphone flavour of choice.

Since I'm a lover of wine I chose Vivino as my app to review and in this case, specifically the Android version.

Knowing this is an active community I thought I would turn to the people of this forum to see if those of you who have an Android smartphone and use the Vivino app might be willing to give your anonymous input in this survey:

https://goo.gl/forms/M1muTEVBBdc929y52

A couple of things to note:

- Your responses will be stored in a Google Sheets spreadsheet which will be visible only to myself and the teacher of my class (once I've worked out how to exclusively grant him access).
- These responses will in no way be fed back to Vivino or used in any commercial sense, this is purely for a research assignment
- This is for volunteers only, so no free bottles of wine for participants, but you will hopefully get a warm tingly feeling from my gratitude.

Thank you very much in advance!

Brandon.

I'm a Vivino user on Android. I filled out the survey for you.
Best of luck with your assignment.

Sorry I don't use Vivino (I use Cellartracker). Going off topic, I was wondering why you use Vivino over Cellartracker?

I use both. CellarTracker for managing my cellar and Vivino for recording what I drink.

I started using Vivino well before I started cellaring wines, so I just continued using it. I couldn't find a way to transfer everything from Vivino into CT.

Hi Brandon
Really appreciate you going to the effort of explaining in detail and making clear what this survey is (and isn't!). I'm normally moderately irritated by fly-by posters wanting to leverage internet communities for their studies, but if all of them approached it as professionally, then it wouldn't be as irritating. Indeed the only recommendation I would add to what you've done, would be to contact the site owner before posting to get their approval. Being able to start the post with: "I've asked the boss and he says it's ok" will avoid some of the grumpy responses often seen to some of the more amateur requests. Might be useful if you want to expand the study to include Wine Pages (Tom Cannavan) or Wine Berserkers (Todd French). Tom especially likes being asked before posting :)

Unfortunately for this survey, not only do I not use Vivino, I'm one of only 6 people in the world without a smartphone  My old Nokia is still going strong and the battery lasts a week between charges :D

regards
Ian

Pretty sure Cellar Tracker now has Vivino functionality built into it?

Thanks Ian,

I know exactly the fly-by type you're referring to and I definitely didn't want to be included in their number! Really appreciate your suggestions for other communities to include; I've sent Gavin a PM informing him of this post, and will take it down immediately if I get the thumbs down.

Cheers,

Brandon.

Kind of. The wine label scanning system in CT uses Vivino, so when you take a photo of the bottle label with your mobile it's sends the image to Vivino for processing and recognition. Vivino then sends the result back to CT. There's no synchronisation between your CT database and your Vivino database or tasting notes between the two systems.

I actually saw you on Cellar Tracker yesterday... you reviewed a wine in my cellar! (2012 Petaluma).
