I'm a big fan of Ben Glaetzer, love all of his labels. Been following his wines since the 2000 Heartland & the Mitolos 2001.
When I saw the 96-100 bestowed upon GAM 2003 by RP, it was a big call having tasted 01 & 02. It's was excellent wine short of being outstanding.

The verdict;
When the wines arrived, I opened a btl to see whether the wine do any justice to the rating.
Color is like squid ink. Intense but not heavy or crossing the border of being jammy/overipe. Deep intoxicating nose, full trottle palate, flavours in abundant. Suprisingly it's so approchable, the texture akin liquid satin followed by a long sustainable finish. Holy Cow, this is the best wine I had fr Ben, even better than the '02 Amon-Ra(s) For thos who bought early, it's a steal @ $52!!!!
Won't be surprised to see this wine flipping @ twice the initial RRP in the secondary market.

Kudos to Ben, he is certainly the winemaker on a steep ascending curve.

Also tasted the Heartland Director's Cut 2003, doesnt has the "grunt" of the 2002. More refined on the palate and more balance.

GAM caps

Post by arvinsoh »

Greetings:

Just got my case and noticed that they used Stelvins. Does anyone know if that was the case for all the GAM wines, or just some? Thanks!

Cheers,

Arvin

The '03 is a super wine.

I went to a Mitolo dinner a couple of weeks back and had:
Jester 2001
Jester 2002
Reiver 2001
Reiver 2002
Reiver 2003
GAM 2000
GAM 2001
GAM 2002
GAM 2003
Savitar 2001
Savitar 2002
Savitar 2003
Serpico 2002
Serpico 2003

GAM was a standout but the '03 Savitar is excellent as well.....

Guest,
For their 2001&02 vintage, the Savitar was the best wine but for 03 the GAM hit the jackpot. Was disapointed with the Reiver 03, thought it was one dimensional and dominated by oak at this stage.

Arvin, I don't know the proportions, but some were using cork, I bought one with cork off the shelf bin (all cork) and a 6-pack in stelvin.

Thanks for the link Brian. Good site.

I didn't know half of those retailers existed before.

Also managed to get my GAM at better than price quoted above :D :D
