Cellar Door Recommendations - Adelaide Hills

Hi All,

I'll be venturing back to South Australia's wine country next month and thought that we might head to Adelaide Hills given a lot of the wines we have enjoyed around the Barossa and Clare valleys have fruit from this region.

Just looking to see if there are any 'must see' cellar doors we should check out. We're both partial to a bone-dry riesling, pinot gris, chenin blanc and wines of that ilk. If there are any places doing provence-style Rose (IE dry but still fruit-driven) then I would be very keen to check those out as well.

I'm also keeping an eye out for medium-bodied reds to add to the collection.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

There are probably a few back threads on this where you can find others' recommendations. However my tips would be Ashton Hills for sparkling, riesling and pinot, Hahndorf Hill for rose, Gruner and Blaufrankisch. Shaw and Smith runs a more formal tasting flight with local cheeses ($10?). Food wise, check out the Summertown Aristologist, Lost in a Forest or try for a long lunch at The Lane if the weather is nice.

I did a search on back threads, but typing Adelaide Hills in a wine forum search brought up it's own plethora of individual posts to read through!

Great tips, I've seen Ashton Hills and Shaw and Smith come up quite a few times now. Hahndorf Hill sounds interesting, I haven't had much luck with grunerveltliner in the past but I'm keen to branch into Austrian styles a bit more and it looks like they're the shot!

I’ve posted elsewhere on this forum, but you can emerge yourself in "sub-regions" and do a few wineries at a time. In most instances the wineries mentioned below will tick some / most of your boxes, but probably not all at once, but I think you'll enjoy them:

Deviation Road in the Hills are making some of the best sparkling wine in the country according to Tyson Stelzer.

Sounds like Ashton Hills and Shaw and Smith are definites, just had a quick look at The Lane, agreed I think that's lunch taken care of too!

I've had some good stuff from BK Wines in the past (think they're in the Lenswood area), but I think they're a restaurant exclusive winery.
