Hi Mike,

Being the messiah of Champagne, how does the 2006 compare to the 2002 & 2004 vintages and also the 2006 Dom?

I ask because 2006 was our wedding year and I'm keen to stock up on a number of quality bubbles.

Cheers,
Tony

Not sure if its messiah or just myopic ! The 06 Comtes is very good, and has been rated highly by people with better palates than me. That said, I really really rate both the 02 and 04 Comtes - I bought more of these than any other Champagne - and would put both marginally in front of the 06. That said, you can't go wrong with any of the three, unless you drink them too young !

As for the DP, in most vintages it is a wine I adore. Sadly, in recent years, I've noted much more bottle variation than usual, and that includes the 06. Accordingly, I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm hoping to try it again in the next few weeks.

When all is said and done, I'm yet to meet anyone who has drunk well cellared, aged Comtes BdB, and not been thoroughly impressed and so that would be my recommendation.

Hope that helps

Mike

Thanks Mike. Out of interest what is the going rate for the 2006 Comte in the US (in AUD)?

As my stocks of this were down to 5, I just bought 12 more 2007 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth. Not from the McWilliams site though....

Has anyone noticed how much they've raised the price of the 2007 Elizabeth?
As of this morning:
CASE OF 6
RRP: $210.00
MEMBERS: $189.00
That's $33 a bottle now...

I swear it was $102 for a case of 6 last month and with various coupons you could have had it for about $10 a bottle...

Oh well found somewhere cheaper, and at less than $102 per 6

In case you guys were interested in the price increase, I emailed Mcwilliams/Mount Pleasant as to why they increased the price of this by so much. Here is what they responded with:

"Hi David,

I have been informed that there has indeed been a price increase due to the last two vintages being quite challenging. This resource gap combined with increasing cost pressures has lead us to review the current Mount Pleasant prices.

I am also of the understanding that we are coming to the end of the 2007 vintage with the next release being 2009. If you are fortunate enough to find the 2007 in the marketplace, it would be worth investing in further stock for yourself.

Kind regards,
..."

So there you have it...

Hi Diddy

No I think it sold out.

Interestingly so many different people contact me regarding HKG and where to buy wine and I suggested Cappellano from a mate who imports. With my discount ! Nobody took me up on the offer and it trippled in price in the US and an Asian review as it the best 2010 Barolo has seen it sell out here within a day.

Which whiskey? I've been having a good nudge at a Spey River and an unpeated Bruichladdich. I've tried three different Bruichladdichs recently and they are a superb whiskey.

Shockingly nothing in July for me, after a June where nothing was bought. I do plan to pick some older wines up from a trip to Portugal in October, but I am starting to feel a little trigger happy, including eyeing up some Bests wines at a south coast merchant
