Brunello Offline 28 July Thursday - Osteria Riva (truffles)
Brunello Offline 28 July Thursday - Osteria Riva (truffles)
Personally I hugely enjoyed the Barolo evening. Even more importantly since I personally was coming off such a low knowledge base, I also learnt an enormous amount about a region I have always been interested but had minimal exposure to. Given we have had a Burgundy and Bordeaux dinner so far this year in addition to the Barolo night, it seems to make sense to try for a Brunello di Montalcino offline later in the year say late July after school holidays.
Would people be interested in new offline which focused on Brunello. I have some old 1999 in the cellar but only a small amount? If so I am happy organising a new venue etc.
The winemaker that is coming suggested Osteria Riva on Bronte Rd in Bondi Junction. He suggested the restaurant because during the month of July they run a special truffle dish each evening plus it is possible to shave truffles over dishes if you wish. As I have never really tried truffles in the natural form, it sounded a good option so I have booked a table for 8 based on the numbers so far. It is a 5 min walk from the train station
I know some other people are keen to join if the wine range is expanded which I am happy with. So any one interested to bring other Italian wines including whites?

b) little old ladies beware.
Actually I've only had it a couple of times before so I look forward to learning more about it.

Bob the idea is to do it during the school term, not during the school holidays for the same reason. I had in mind somewhere around the 24 or 25 when everyone is back at school. Does that change things for you? I also have kids at school.

The eldest doesn't start school until next year so we are taking advantage of the low crowds out of school holidays.
Next year I'll be in line with your calendar, which is good for fine wine but bad for a ski tragic like me

Wish it was the 1988- one of my greatest BdM's ever and a cliche Burgundy lover's BdM.

Late July the missus is turning 40, so I have a few events on there and thereabouts or I would be all over this.

Maybs/Bobthebuilder
it seems as though if we moved the dinner to the first week of july, that would make it easier for you both to attend, am I correct? I have also asked Jamie the same question.
are any of the current attendees going away for school holidays? if not would a change to early july adversely affect people?

Re: Brunello di montalcino Offline late July
We still to have less participants compared to the Barolo evening. I have one friend who has asked to join asking us up to 6. Would opening the night up to Super Tuscans make the evening attractive to a few more drinkers? Clearly 6 is good but 8 or 10 might give a wider range of wines.

I was thinking either 21 or 28 July once school is back in. Either one is good for me. Do any of the people who have said yes so far have a preference? Does either date open it up for other people?

Re: Brunello di montalcino Offline late July
Prefer 21st myself, don't think I can make 28th at this stage. The July 2nd option was OK as well FWIW.
Re: Brunello di montalcino Offline late July
I'm only a chance to make any date in July now, sorry, so for the time being safest to say I won't be able to.

21 is fine by me. As its my birthday on the 23, its sort of like an early birthday celebration with nice wine.

Thanks for the thought, but first week of July I have to go to Melbourne for a few days, so yeah the start and finish of July are just bad for me. No Brunello for Scotty

Are you still going to be in Melbourne on 8 July, maybs? We're having an Italian themed offline. You're welcome to join us.
Re: Brunello di montalcino Offline late July
Thanks Ozzie, I will either be down there 30 June and 1 July or 7 and 8, but flying back late afternoon 8th...I could speak to the missus about whether she would kill me if I spent the extra night in Melbourne, would be rest to meet some of the Melbourne crew.
