I still haven't received my mailer yet, fingers-crossed that I will receive it by tomorrow. This will be my second year, I will probably have shot at 4 bottles of each and hope to get at least a straight Malbec or Cab varieties. I will ditch the Muscat.

I lit a candle and used a quill to fill in my ancient parchment order form.
Sealed the envelope with some wax.
Got a good spread of everything.
Probably leaning slightly towards shiraz and shiraz blends.
Ordered a couple of straight Malbecs too as I've never tried these.

This link will lead you to a transcript of an interview with Lita Brady in 2002 (State Library of SA).
There are some really interesting details about the history of Wendouree in the interview (going back to the times of Roly Birks) so hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Thanks Mario,

What a lovely lady Lita Brady is. What a privilege we have in buying their wine.

Ok, got mine, first timer.
No crayon, what does that mean?
Am I likely to get my allocation particularly if I concentrate on the Cabs and Malbecs? Probably looking at a mixed doz of those?

My best advice is to order six packs of everything and keep your fingers crossed! Probably won't get the shiraz, but who knows. No crayon means you are at the bottom of the pile and the various coloured crayons and the black initials get first preference. But based on experiences from last year's thread, first timers then got small allocations, probably not of their first preferences, but some wine nonetheless.

100% agreed. Both of these wines blew my mind. I can't remember who brought 1990 Cb/Mb but I know you brought 1991 shiraz to last Wendouree tasting.
Thanks heaps for sharing such a great wine Dave.

I have been on the list only a short time (my 5th year this year) I have found ordering mixed dozens or a little more has meant I have always got an allocation. You will want to order a variety not just 6 Shiraz and 6 Cab. The only wine I have missed out on when ordering is the straight Cab. But I knew people who had been on the list 15 years when I missed it who also didn't get any. You should be fine. From 09-11 they had limits of 6 bottles on Cab, Shiraz and Malbec. This is when I missed the Cab but got Shiraz. But this year and last only the Shiraz has had a 6 bottle limit so most people will get their allocation. Prices going up does mean there is slightly less wine than last year though (Tony Stated this to someone from The Week That Was)

I alwsys feel lucky just to get anything from Wendouree!

Hi all

I am new to this forum and discovered Wendouree last year, bought some ridiculously priced shiraz at auction, and called the winery. They promised to put me on the mailing list, and true to their promise I received my order form yesterday (obviously no crayon marks!).

So I mailed it in this morning, tried for half a dozen of each of the reds, and will see how I go. Judging by the comments here I may be lucky to snag a fair bit of what I have requested, but quite probably not the prized shiraz. Checked out Halliday's reviews - 2012s were very high but he hasn't done 2013 yet. Oliver has reviewed some of the 2013s with typically conservative ratings, but it all looks fairly promising. I guess if I get any at all, I will eventually find out in 10 years time when I actually open one, whether all the fuss was worth it!! I suspect though, judging from the 2002 shiraz I popped a few weeks ago, that all will be well :)

Cheers!!

WA wineguy, welcome.

If you get no Shiraz, I'd not be too disappointed.

My personal opinion only, of course, but my favourites/the best are the Cabernet Malbec, the Cabernet and the Malbec, when released.

Caveat, my tastes etc, everyone is different etc, but I rarely get Shiraz, and do not really miss it!

.
regards

Seems he's only rated the shiraz' so far:

Shiraz - 96 (2033-43)
Shiraz Malbec - 93 (2025-33)
Shiraz Mataro - 95 (2025-33)

2nd year in the mailing lost for me and this year there was a red crayon mark, woohoo.

Last year I ordered a mixed dozen and got 6 wines. No Cab, Cab Malbec or Shiraz. This year I've ordered a mixed 18. So hopefully I will get a couple of each this year.

I was going to order a dozen. However I opened a 2006 Shiraz Mataro to celebrate the arrival of the order form. A real eye opener and my 'I get it' moment with Wendouree. After the 2nd glass I immediately upped the order :) fingers crossed.

So, assuming they don't give the cabernets 97+, Jeremy is a "drongo", then

Received my mail on Monday, 2nd year I got red crayon mark, cool! I ordered 5 x Cab/Mal and 1x Muscat then 6 x each of the rest, sent the mail today. Fingers-crossed I will get more than just the Shiraz/Mal and Shiraz/Mat this time around. :o

So considering the Brady's don't chase points and as far as I can tell don't give out samples, how does Oliver get to try samples of the 2013's ahead of release?
