Wine Bars of Paris

Post by Croquet King »

I'll be in Paris for a weekend in early July (well actually in London but I'm going to spend it in Paris).
I'll be by myself so am thinking of doing a wine bar tour.

I've been to Paris a few times but have only been to one wine bar - Willies.
I've been recommended La Baron Rouge.

Does anyone else have any recommendations?
I'm thinking of places I can just sit for a while and enjoy the local produce and wine.

Thanks
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

Where are you staying? What type/style of wine and food is your preference? What sort of budget do you have?

There's about a million of them and half of those are fantastic.

Can recommend Juveniles and Les Climats from last visit. Juveniles pretty relaxed, Les Climats one Michelin star and a little more formal.

most envious.
I have a son who lives there and took me on the most amazing wine bar crawl last year, cool clear winter's day. Gosh, I really wish I could remember the names, but all I can recall is the incredible interiors/atmosphere, stunning cheeses and bread, awesome ales and of course, incredible red wines. Mostly unheard of, from Bordeaux satellites, to the Loire and Santenay. CNDP, Cornas and beaujolais.
I will ask him.
I remember the best of the lot was a few streets back from the Shakespeare book store, it was just incredibly cool sitting there, eating drinking and talking in the pale winter light.
will let you know

I haven't booked any accommodation yet as I'll do this last when I work out exactly where I'll be.
Food style - cheese (all sorts) bread, meat, seafood.
Wine - any style but prefer reds. It will be summer so happy to drink both. I love champagne.
Budget - Don't really have one but I don't intend on going to any high end restaurants. Happy to pay what it costs. After all its not every weekend I get to spend in Paris.

I'm flexible at the moment. I'm thinking of going to the Pompidou to get a bit of culture.

I'll be single so just wanted somewhere to sit down and mingle or watch the locals.

Willi's and Juveniles are the two I tended to frequent...and both quite famous. If you need to divert from purely wine bars, Harry's has a storied history

If you are going to the Pompadour centre then the 11th arr is the place to be. Full of fantastic bars such as Le Verre Vole, A La Renaissance, Le Repaire de Cartouche, Touller Outillage, Bones, le six Paul Bert, my absolute favourite Cave Fervèré and Jeanne A. The latter is across the road from the Hotel Cosmos which at 70E a night is a bargain.

Another bar I enjoyed very much is Monsieur Henri.

Of course, there is a steady revolving door of bars and restaurants so some of these might be something else by the time you get there.

At 83 Rue du Roquette was a cool little wine bar/restaurant Quatre Fois Cinq. Not overly expensive, very laid back. Local.

Do yourself a favour and visit Les Caprices de L'instant at 11 Rue Jacques Coeur, du near Bastille. A small wine shop, who usually has a bottle open out the back that they are happy to share with customers. An amazing hotch potch set up of all things French. Hit them up for recommendations, as an addition to the forum's advice

Thank you for everyones feedback.

I've booked a hotel not far from Republique Metro near the 3rd and 11th Arr. ( Cosmos was full so I'm at Hotel Paris France)

Bars on the list so far are:
Monsieur Henri
Willi's
Juveniles
La Baron Rouge (in the morning to have the oysters as well)
Le Bocal à Vins
plus a wonder around the 11th.

This should give me a good start plus a visit to the Pompadour.

I'll take some notes and report back. I'll be there in 2 weeks

So I've now mapped all these bars and printed them out for easy reference.

Willi's, Juveniles and Verjus are literally within 100m of each other.
I'll take notes and some photos and report back. Now I'm getting excited.
Thanks again for the groups help.

Le Bocal à Vins (Cave Fervère) - 16 Rue des 3 Bornes, 75011 Paris
Verjus - 52 Rue de Richelieu, 75001 Paris
5e Cru - 7 Rue du Cardinal Lemoine, 75005 Paris
Ô Chateau - 68 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 75001 Paris
Monsieur Henri - 8 Rue de Picardie, 75003 Paris
Willi's Wine Bar - 13 Rue des Petits Champs, 75001 Paris
Verjus - 52 Rue de Richelieu, 75001 Paris
Juveniles - 47 Rue de Richelieu, 75001 Paris
AU LOUP - 25 Rue Bergère, 75009 Paris

If you are staying up near Republique Metro, you really should try and do a lunch or dinner at Bofinger near Bastille. http://www.bofingerparis.com/en/ .It is one of the most famous art nouveau restaurants in Paris. The food is not cutting edge so go old school steak and frites or fish but the interior is quite spectacular.
