Champagne Louis Roederer NV Brut Premier - Aged 15 years
A half bottle that I grabbed from the cellar to accompany our Roast Chicken Monday night dinner.
Purchased a few of these at auction a while ago and all are around 15 years old now (judging by the importer at the time)
Very very nice. Perhaps slightly too oxidised for my taste but still delicious. The Brut Premier is my favourite NV for ageability. Just unvealed layers and layers of recognisable flavours, from honey and vanilla through to the classic caramel and nuts finish. This champagne rivals many vintage labels after a few extra years maturity.
Its that time of the week again SUNDAY - report in...
‘Twas a busy one for wine last week.
Wine group: Theme was Quality/Price – a subjective assessment.
Started with a 96 Grosset PH – dud bottle.
Riesling: 1996 Orlando Jacobs Creek & 1996 Howard Park (another dud bottle) JC was lovely.
Pinot: 1999 Yarra Ridge & 1999 Bindi. Most preferred the highly perfumed YR. Bindi will improve with age.
Blends: 1990 Rouge Homme & 1990 Penfolds Bin 389. RH more than held its own. Both excellent.
Cabs: 1994 Seaview & 1994 Cullen. Most preferred the Seaview, and were shocked at the result.
Finished with a Craiglee Shiraz, I think it was a 98? Great wine.
Compared three 2001 Shiraz’s Saturday. Seppelt Victorian, Richmond Grove, Mamre Brook. Bought more of all three, all great wines for the prices asked.
At a restaurant: 2001 Balgownie Pinot. After a 98 I had a couple of months ago, this was a little disappointing. It will probably develop a little, but it didn’t do a lot for me. 2000 St Huberts Cab. There are many quality wines coming from the Yarra in 2000, this is another, very nice indeed.
