Adelaide Offline Sept 18th 0r 19th?
I'm coming into ADL on a stealth mission to avoid relatives and drop off a fair bit of wine I've had brought into Australia over the last few months.
Be nice to catch up with some of the ADL crew and do a offline if any about the 18th or 19th? Open to any themes ( I have access to foreign wines not often seen in Oz ) or just bring along some great SA wine?
cheers,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
A few of us were already talking of catching up for a well overdue offline about that time, so your timing is perfect!
As far a theme goes, what are you interested in?
We have been kicking around the idea of a "sell a kidney" theme (wines you'd trade in one for to try, minimum value $300+), but that probably wouldn't suit a big turnout of over eight or so people. You did mention in an earlier thread about an Italian theme, and I do have that magnum of 1996 Brezza Barolo to have a look at, so perhaps an old-world theme is another possibility?
Who else is interested?
Cheers,
Ian

I do believe I can work with the 18th or the 19th next month..
I'm easy .. with the wine theme anyway
Actually.. on a rethink.. I have seen Jamies collection and I think we should press for a high end foreign theme

Would be nice to meet Jamie B, who along with Mike NYC must have a cellar that you could start kidney stem cell research with (could give away more that just the 2 we are born with).
Equally, might be time to catch up with Ian H.
One problem boys...don't have any Italians.
Could think about a 98 Bests Thompson's, or a Wynns 82 BL magnum
18th probably works better for me
Cheers
Craig.

Re: Adelaide Offline Sept 18th 0r 19th?
An Italian affair would require a lot of preparation ( bottles imported months in advance ) so as far as the theme goes I'd prefer just great wine. I didn't mean to indicate a bias toward foreign wines, its just that with good access from HKG I can bring some gear that is a little hard to get in ADL- for instance, I'd probably bring a great Austrian white and a magnum of red burgundy. If an Australian theme, I'm out of it a bit but I have a cellar full of the now retro like classics from the 80's and 90's.

The 19th sounds good, but can't make the 18th.
As for foreign, I can do french, but not Italian.
Happy with Australian also or any other theme.
Cheers

Count me in. I can do either the 18th or the 19th - the Friday would be preferable.
As for theme, "good and interesting" probably hits the mark.
I'll have to do a cellar run and see what pops up.

Hi guy's,
I can do the 19th but not the 18th.
Would love a high end theme, but doesn't need to be SAK.
A quick glance at cellartracker and I could bring something like (depending on the theme).....
Very high end....
1996 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut
1998 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
1995 Château Léoville Las Cases
1996 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707
High end....
1999 Stonyridge Vineyard Larose
1998 Petaluma Coonawarra
2002 Henschke Shiraz Mount Edelstone
Crazy (Dave) would likely be a starter as well for the 19th.
Cheers,
Tony

I'd love to come along too, can do either, the 18th or the 19th.
Let's organise a theme
What about a 'clean out Jamie Bahrain's Cellar' theme?
How does that sound?
Can do either the 18th or 19th though.

keen to show my face at an offline.
Although I'm reno'ing at the moment so the Bank Acc. is taking a battering.
In keeping with that, my theme suggestion would be best SA reds under 15 bucks....

Might pay to wait for the next one then (unless you find a spare $300 or so to spend under the floorboards), this one is trending towards the sell-a-kidney theme.

I agree. I would hate to see someone offer a 98 basket press and be told that it was not up to snuff.

I'm keen to get to an offline, but I also like both my kidneys.
So what is the official theme?
Still $300+ ?

I can bring 98 BP en magnum if that's what folks prefer. I was only leaning toward the foreign stuff as I buy it ex cellar from Europe and it's probably not seen in Australia and yep, it's probably SAK price locally but I'm cheating by living abroad.
For me I'd love to share a Prager riesling and a rare Barbaresco or Burgundy en magnum with a prayer it shows as well in ADL as when I've consumed them in their respective homelands.

Yes Jamie, as far as wine buying you have it all over us Adelaide locals.
I am on a modest salary and would only have about 20 bottles that are in excess of $300.
I would be quite happy to live in HK with generous salaries and tax concessions, I have colleagues over there that earn 4-5 times my wage.
I have thought about the move, but not quite right at present for me.
I am sure that what you will bring will be an eye opener for most of us.
Am trying to sort the dates, the Friday does not work all that well, but will have a word with management.
Sounds like with your fantastic cellar you could have a casual BBQ/dinner offsite and open a dozen or two and charge us what you think and it would be an amazing wine experience.
Hope I can make it.
Cheers Craig.

Hi Jamie,
I've never tried a red burgundy wine with any age so personally I would love to try one that your recommend (I rate your palate!).
As for the theme, I'd still prefer a SAK or at least 'go hard or go home' but will be guided by the majority.
Look forward to catching up on the 19th Jamie!
Cheers,
Tony

Hi Tony,
I'll bring a 1er Cru 98 Volnay magnum with a Barbaresco magnum as a back up ( hoping the Volnay buggered as the Barbaresco a personal favorite ) . I'd like to bring a foreign white too and I have a few in mind though I have to check what I've imported that's ready to go.

It now sounds like it's leaning more towards a "go hard" (ie. bring something decent, in context of what others are taking) dinner this time as opposed to a full out SAK theme.
Jamie's indicated he's taking a magnum of 1998 1er Cru Volnay, with a magnum of (a personal favourite) Barbaresco as a back up. That should serve as a decent measuring stick.
Cheers,
Ian

Re: Adelaide Offline Sept 18th 0r 19th?
I believe i have a bottle of comte armand clos des epeneaux 1998 stored somewhere (i think it's actually in sydney but i will need to find out). While red wine from beaune always gets overlooked it should be still interesting to compare a volnay to a pommard from same vintage (I'm afraid the pommard might not be in the same league if Jamie's magnum is the d'angerville clos des duc or michel lafarge)
As i promised Ian i will also bring this penfolds for him because he said he never had any good penfolds in the past
I still can't confirm my attendance but i will advise asap.

Re: Adelaide Offline Sept 18th 0r 19th?
Hi all,
I had a word with the management at Park Lok tonight - Friday the 19th is definitely out of the question due to a major event with Cheong Liew and Ao Jun, which has the place completely booked out.
http://www.bass.net.au/events/the-emperors-feast.aspx
Seven will talk to the guys at Ky Chow and T-Chow as a possible alternative for the Friday night, although with all the events around the OzAsia festival this may prove to be difficult to find a venue around Chinatown.
Otherwise that leaves us with Thursday the 18th, which Park Lok have said they can fit us in.
Cheers,
Ian
