Yeah, it was meant as a response to the "went a bid mad" bit. Big list!
Re: June 2013 purchases
A few 02 Gimmonet Special club champers, and an 08 giaconda Chardonnay.
Also last week a mag of 07 Jadot Hospice Corton which I still need to pay for!
Mike or anyone, thoughts on the Gimmonet? Have never tried it.

Re: June 2013 purchases
I LOVE Gimonnet. IMO, the best house in Cuis by far. Was it the 2002 Special Club or the 2002 Special Club Collection (it has a metallic looking label)? They are really 'minerally', quite dry and need a bit of time. The 2002 is my favourite release, so I think you're on a winner if its been well stored. In fact, I'd go as far as saying, based on Aussie prices, it is close to the best value champagne in the country (yes, a big call, but at $80 its good value - its approx EUR 42 at the cellar door).
The exception to my love of the house is the Paradoxe (so named because if comes from black grapes, whereas the house, being located in Cote de Blanc normally uses chardonnay only) which is a disappointing wine based on the vintages I've tried.
Hope that helps
Mike

Re: June 2013 purchases
Perfect, thanks Mike.
Yes, on closer inspection it's the Collection, I bought the last 4 at a great price from a very reputable retailer for my wifes milestone birthday celebration In a few weeks. Will they show well young?

Re: June 2013 purchases
Good news - the Collection is the better wine of the 2.... It will show well young, but maybe give it a bit of air. Perhaps open a bottle, pour 2 glasses and put all of them (carefully) in the fridge for 30 mins. Then pull the glasses out 10 mins before you want to drink them.

Thanks Craig the JB's were an auction purchase, i don't recall the price but it was cheap. I've only recently developed a real taste for rielsing so have been keen to track down a variety of 2002's. Just got to track down the Tim Adams.

Now for the lot, although the Centenary and JR could hold for another 5-10 if really well kept in the past.

Don't think I've had the Metala 2010 yet, mostly enjoyed quite a few of the 2009. Would be interested in your opinion of the 2010 when you get around to trying it Michael.

Re: June 2013 purchases
Daz, have had 3 or 4 2010 Metalas recently
I really like it, a bit of a fruit bomb, good mouth feel nice intergration, gutsy and well structured not aggressive in any way at 2 years of age.
I have put a dozen in the cellar, have Metalas going back to 86...they are such good wines long term.
Suprisingly for what is now a 100 000+ bottle make, the quality is still there.
And at $11 dollars a no brainer...JH did an article in the Weekend Australia about 2-3 months ago, reviews were very positive.
They are one of my quaffers, better than wynns white label, Koonunga Hill, annies lane reds
Cheers Craig.

I haven't had a bad '10 SA wine yet. Even the cheapies aren't too shabby. It was such a good growing season. Just can't wait for '12. Supposed to be even better.

I agree with Craig's assessment. My note from Feb was:
This is an old favourite which has returned to form in the past 4-5 years after a bit of a poor spell.
Excellent dark colour. A very strong nose of blackberry and a hint of nutty oak. Full-bodied plum and blackberry fruit on the palate. Very good oak management with soft tannin and some dark chocolate flavours. Very, Very Good with an Excellent QPR.
If I wasn't trying not to drink mid-week, this would be a 12-bottle buy not six.
Cheers
