Dave, UFO sent me a note to say he couldn't make it, unfortunately. Paul V was thinking of bringing a starter, possibly an aged riesling.

Hey guys I assume this is all booked in and people are all pumped up?

The Mt Edelstone arrived today and the 1990 is in absolutely pristine looking condition... no ullage whatsoever.

Now its just in the hands of the cork gods...

Dave, all is ready to go for Thursday night. Rocket Restaurant, Cnr Help and Railway Sts, Chatswood, 6.30pm http://www.rocketrestaurant.com.au/
Bacchaebabe originally said she would have to confirm and I haven't heard either way, so we shall see on the night! Other than that the list above is correct I believe. Looking forward to the evening!

Looking forward to this!! As I mentioned earlier, I'll bring along a Julius Riesling 2012 to sup on as a starter. Sure we've all tried it, but no harm in another taste!

You out there Kris? Yay or Nay?? Shouldn't be a late night, as the restaurant won't want to be open too late, and I'll be looking for a train too, albeit in the opp direction.

That's fine. Lawrence just texted me and has had to pull out. Paul is bringing a 2008 Mt Ed. I also have a (hopefully) nice Champers starter. See you all at 6.30pm!

Hey Tigger, just get the Julius - Rocket has some nice seafood starters which will go very well with the Julius.

This is great guys but I am concerned there are no whites, as I believe Julius only drinks riesling?

FYI I am unlikely to get there by 630 sharp as coming from the CBD and not sure what time I will get away from work... will be there by 7 at the latest.

I think Julius and Cyril can have their own table. It's getting too complicated.

Great night (some quick notes on my lunch break)

Final line-up was (I think)

1996? Veuve Cliquot
2012 Julius Riesling
1990 Mt Edelstone
1999 Mt Edelstone
2001 Mt Edelstone
2006 Mt Edelstone
2008 Mt Edelstone

1994 Cyril
1996 Cyril

2005 Tappa Pass
2006 Tappa Pass

1998 Chateau Reynella
1968 McWilliams Private Bin CabSav
1969 Tahbilk Cab Sav

Morris Rare Muscat

I liked the 1990 out of the MtEd and the 96 of the Cyrils. The younger MtEd were infanticide and somewhat one dimensional (come back in 10-20 years), even the 01 MtEd was a bub yet strangely enough the 99 was quite advanced (but not in a bad way). I loved the tannin structure on the 90 and C96 how they had now fully resolved and softened the wines considerably. The 94 Cyril had some complexity (cough Brett). The Tappa's I found a bit too full on and Greenocky, I'd like to see an aged example and see how they age.

The 'backups' of the 68 McWilliams and 69 Tahbilk were both drinking surprisingly well, with nice coffee bean and dark fruit still going strong.

The Reynella was a baby (will go another 30 years in a canter) and the Morris Rare is great as always.

Food was good and service attentive.

And finally the company was fantastic, had some great laughs.

'twas a great night!
I agree with dave's assessment except that iwas much fonder of the noughties mt eds (happy to drink them now) despite the fact that the 90 was my wotn.I was not so keen on the Cyrils. I like my cabs generally a little cooler climate. Thanks Dave for the fiinishinng treats- really added another dimension to the night. Great company and food. Excellent wines. Sorry I will miss Wendouree.

When a 69 Tahbilk shows up to a night of Hensheke, it can only mean one thing. Dave's suitcase. I think those in attendence may know what I mean.

Sounds like it was a great night to me!!!!!!

How was '06 Mt.Edelstone? Got two in my cellar, guessing needs more long sleep in cellar?

It was a great night... I didnt (even remotely) attempt to take detailed notes ... but overall I really enjoyed the '99 Mt Ed which was quite resolved. The 1990 was good, but I just didn't expect it to be as developed as it was, I would say fully mature.

The 2001 was quite youthful, very enjoyable, but not overly complex... a good drink now proposition.

The 2006/2008 Ed's and the 2005/2006 Tappa's were all far, far too young... good wines, but hard to do them justice. Dont disagree on the "Greenocky" comment re the "Tapas" ... certainly more in the full throttle model.

The 1994 Cyril surprised me with its youthfulness, looking at first younger than the 96. Both showed distinctly more tannin than the shiraz wines (not surprising) and I enjoyed the complexity of the 96.

The port, Morris and random ring ins were all good. As noted above food and service excellent. The McWilliams was a good curiosity, the Tahbilk I actually thought was in remarkable shape for the age.

Nice summary Sam, I would go along with all of that.

The '06 was way way too young, but you can see the bloodline lurking behind the veil of impenetrateable (is that a word?) fruit. Leave for at leave a decade and then bathe in it (I heard that somewhere)
