Decanted 3 hours before service.
Deep purple in colour. Strong nose of blackcurrant, tobacco / cigar, a hint of menthol. The fruit floods through the centre palate, and the tannins have softened and integrated well. It still has primary fruit and is drinking much younger than its age (IMHO).
This is the best cabernet I've had this year (I know, it's early days). It is possibly at its peak now (at 14) but will go another 2-3 at least and may still have further development in it. A delightful wine that has retained its core through its development and is very typical Margaret River cabernet.
It is also a vastly better wine than the Wynns BL 1996 I had last night.
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

The 2005 model of this wine started my journey discovering the great cabernets, cab/merlots and Chardonnays from MR. The cabernets are a step up from Coonawarra IMO although Coonawarra is better value. There aren't many budget wines from MR.

Had a 1998 on Christmas day, which was also excellent. Again probably at or very close to its peak - I've got a couple left and I'll be drinking them over the next year or so I reckon. But very good indeed.

Try Wine By Brad Cabernet/Merlot. Quality sub-$20 cab from MR. The SSB is also top notch for the same dollars.

The wonders of wine are actually quite amazing really. The 05 Vasse started my MR cabernet journey too. Came across a killer deal
and bought 2 cases of the 05 cab and 2 of the 05 shiraz....sadly there are none left.
For the price, they really are magnificent wines and ever since Vasse cabernet has been my 'sure thing' if i ever see it on a wine list or in store at a good price.
Since the 05 vintage, it has never let me down, and while it may not be the greatest MR cabernet, its is very good value for money.
