1976 Wirra Wirra Shiraz and others

Post by colin d »

I've got a few reds in the cellar and not sure what I should do with them. Considering selling them but don't know their true worth. Would be interested in your views on their drinkability. Anway here is the list with description of bottle condition and cellaring details:

1. 1976 Wirra Wirra Shiraz. Got this from an aunty had it stored in a cupboard so no guarantee on this one. No sign of leakage from cork. Possibly just a collectors item with the label in pristine condition.
2. 1986 Wolf Blass Red Label Shiraz Cabernet. Same as above, no sign of leakage.
3. 1996 Bests Bin 0 Shiraz. From my cellar.
4. 1996 Penfolds Bin 407 Cab Sav. From my cellar.
5. 2001 Shadowfax One Eye Shiraz. From my cellar.

A bit of a theme with the 6ers until the Shadowfax, pure chance. Anything from my cellar should be ok as long as the wine has held up. Should I drink or sell?

Busy getting the house ready for son's wedding but when I get a chance I'll post photos of the bottles, most likely tomorrow.

The Wirra Wirra and Wolf Blass are both from good years so you never know, drink them but have a back-up on hand just in case. Meanwhile the Best's and Penfold's could use more time in the cellar.

Here is a shot of four of the wines, I didn't bother with the One Eye as they are young. Clearly the Wirra Wirra has a problem, the cork feels soft and the level has dropped significantly, so it is vinegar :(, but I dig the label with the oversized 1976 on it :D .

The others, including the WB 1986 look ok. I'm still open to offers, othewise 2013 will see them get drunk, or should that be me?? Why am I happy to part with them, to help fund the purchase of equipment for my large format film camera.
