1999 Seppelt St Peters shiraz

Post by Justin B. »

Its been quite a while since I have tried a young St Peters / Great Western. The 99 is much more approachable than I was expecting. Very very good balance, yummy spicy palate, admirable structure and a generous serving of French oak. I have heard so many good reports about the 98 which I have not tried. If the 98 is better, then it must be damn fine, because the 99 gets a big 'recommended' from me. Do yourself a favour and try it. Its worth the $ IMO.

1 week later

Post by Justin B. »

So here I am one week later and still have some of the 99 St Peters left in bottle. I have tried it a couple of times over the past week. My first tasting was quite positive but later tastings with more airing have been less so. Obvious high quality wine but is just lacking a little mid palate weight with flavour and is a bit short. Should cellar well though but unlikely to be a classic. Still decent VFM. Go for the 98 if you can find it, as that is probably the better wine.

98 St Peters

The 98 is brilliant. Took it to a blind tasting of 20 Victorian Shiraz and it was the best by far.
You can still find the 98 around if you look- Bought a carton last week.
