Logan M is okay but not outstanding.
Try Delamere blanc de blancs for a nice creamy bubbles or Robert Channon Wines blanc de blancs for a lighter, cool climate style.
Jansz and Stefano Lubiana are okay - but overpriced in my opinion.

Re: Temperature of glassware for sparking wines
In my experience, putting the glasses in the freezer first shocks the wine a little too much and sadly I found that out the hard way - tasting some of the most expensive champagnes you could imagine when in London.... gah! However, refrigeration is fine at home. In a restaurant situation, I believe ...

Firstly, good luck with it all.
I agree though - around 15C and 70% humidity feels right.

Re: Heat effected wine
Agreed - it depends on the winery and the distributor (if it's Aust Post, winery should have insurance anyway). I received a cooked bottle (moderately expensive burgundy) from a well known auction house (not Aust Wine Centre, obviously !). I didn't bother sending it back or seeking recompense, rathe...

Re: Heat effected wine
Yes, you should expect replacement or at least a refund. Yes, it's holidays so everyone has been away but more importantly it's vintage time and most winemakers and their people are busy like mad getting ready for vinification and grape harvest! Try again by phone next week and once by email if they...

Re: Tempranillo in Australia
You all seem to be forgetting that the best climate for Tempranillo is one that is very similar to the Granite Belt region up here in Queensland! The cooler climate tempranillo will be very drinkable, indeed quaffable, but they sometimes lack a bit of the heavier spice I lust for in a good tempranil...

People, people, people!
With Champagne still in oversupply and reducing its prices on the market (some up to 25%!!!!), I hope to be able to pop more than one bottle this year!
Lanson is around $25 cheaper at the moment... for example.

I see no problem in you posting this type of enquiry - it's purely based on wine taint questions... doesn't really matter where the wine came from, does it!? In response to your problem, yes TCA can affect some screwcap wines but it's very unlikely. It sounds like the wine has expressed a dislike fo...

Re: Shiraz Riesling?
All correct and good questions Cuttlefish! How the blending of white wine affects the texture of the blend depends heavily on: the grapes, the fermentation and the barrels (from my understanding). I don't understand in full the chemistry behind all the blends, but with Shiraz Viognier I understand t...

Re: Shiraz Riesling?
Intriguing. I've tried a few shiraz riesling blends before but haven't really been impressed. I put it down to winemaker's "experimenting" rather than spending time (over many years) perfecting the blend. This would explain why we don't see many (any?) on the market. As has already been me...

Re: Fortune Telling Australian Wine Writer?
Bit of a conundrum for this writer. He should have made clear what he based his notes on. I always do, even if it's a preliminary barrel sample. It's not that uncommon for a wine writer who has commercial interests with a company to review their wines pre-release, by tasting the barrel sample. The p...

Re: Alcohol Heat in Wine
The advice that you were given about alcohol and wine temperature sounds apposite to me. Definitely not. If you decrease the temperature of a wine, you decrease two effects to the palate (albeit only to a certain extent): acid and alcohol perception. That's why if you have a really, really horribly...

Re: White wine in the fridge
It depends. I suppose if you have a stellar wine then I wouldn't like to take a chance on it and I'd return it (by slowing warming first to room temp to avoid shock) back to the cellar. However, if it's a dodgy wine that hasn't been cold stabilised correctly, for example, it's probably not a great i...
