Stonewall Lunch

Ran into Deano by surprise at the Stonewall Lunch today. Plenty of good wine and lots of great food and some pretty good banter. BTW, I haven't attached a ping ping ball to my ear. It's just the dressing for a skin cancer I had off. All good but dressing needs to stay on for two weeks. LRM_EXPORT_20...

Re: Help with 86 Magnum of Grange

Probably way too late with this but i had 86s of the following wines about five years ago: Grange, John Riddoch, Hill of Grace, Seppelt Sparkling Burgundy and a few others. Most of them were singing and the JR was the wine of the night. The Grange was young. Very very young. Almost closed. My though...

Re: NWR: Coffee Machines

I came to this too late. I have a breville Dual boiler. I used to have a high range saeco but the breville shits all over that. I have a cafe across the road from us and another 15 within a five minute walk (I live in Newtown) and none of them make coffee as good as I do on this machine. And believe...

Wow! Looks like an amazing weekend away. I need to log in more often. Could have added a few vintages to those you tasted and doubled up on some too. And the food at Muse looked like something else. Nice one guys. Might find a Lake's Folly for tonight.

Re: Top gun Aussie Shiraz - when to drink?

So I check in here after a long absence and this is the first thread I read. Last post made me laugh with the reminiscing of the TORB travel diaries. I edited quite a few of those so read them quite a few times. To put forward one opinion on why people fade away from the board, for me I got too busy...

Re: Henschke Sydney Offline

I might be up for this one although I won't be able to confirm until much closer to the date and it would be on the condition we finish prior the the last train back to the city. Or I'll need to do a runner to the train. North snore is not ideal for me but if it's close to the train, I'll try to cop...

Re: Champagne experts help. What shall I drink

I had the 96 Dom about a year and a half ago and it was SO young and very acidic. A 96 Lanson was a lot more approachable and enjoyable. Although the Cristal will probably be the same.

But most importantly, congrats on paying off the mortgage. That's something to be celbrated, that's for sure.

For buying right now, look at 2012 Clare rieslings and 2010 South Australian reds. You won't make too many mistakes with those. There's quite a few excellent rieslings under $15 and they are definitely worth cellaring. And if the budget stretches, 02 vintage champange. Lanson can be found for around...

On friday night with pizza, a 01 Seppelts Chalambar went down particularly well. Covered with medals, mostly gold and trophies, this has lost most of its primary fruit with hints of black fruits being most dominant. Lovely structure though and drinking nicely with good weight. Saturday night started...

Yep, both the Moet and Veuve 2002s are quite sublime and reasonably priced for vintage champers. Extrordinary vintage and these two houses both nailed it in 02. The Dom is excellent too but in a different price category. I've stocked up on all three although they are just starting to ge difficult to...

Yep, I'll throw my two cents in for the Voyager Estate Chardy. All the recent vintages have been very good so it's a safe bet. If you don't like it, my advice is give up. At least for a few years.

Had a 2005 Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir last night. Good deep red colour. Lovely perfumed nose with a bit of funk thrown in. In that deep red fruit spectrum rather than sweeter strawberry style. Finished with a waft of musk. This was a rich full bodied pinot and was even really liked by my "I do...

Posts of this nature tend to grate somewhat. How anyone thinks any wine maker has any control of the secondary market is beyond me. The secondary market is driven by supply and demand pure and simple. More typically what happens when the secondary market prices increase is that the winery increase t...

Had a couple of bottles of 1998 Greenock Creek Barossa Cabernet Savignon last night. Both opened well with perfect intact corks stained only at the bottom. I'm in India at the moment so drinking wine is quite the challenge. The wine list at the hotel in Kolkata was quite limited and extraordinarily expensive. Thus I thought I'd try the local wine. From my terrible memory, best I've had are: 1904 Seppelt Port. I've had four vintages of this including the first (1870?) but I think it was the 04 that sent me into a vineous orgasm. 2001 Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir. I can still taste it. Yeah, but has anyone tasted it?

I'll pay what I did last year (about $38) or a little more if it's any good.

I usually get a six pack each year at the discount rates. I pass if I can't though.
