screwcap

did the high quality biodynamic winemaker also refrain from using sulphur dioxide in his wine so it can be compleatly organic and preservative free ? He is off the planet with his thoughts on screwcap standing up ! I seem to meet another screwball every day ! If you are unconvinced of the absolute a...

1988 greenock creek shiraz

I saw a post the other day , with someone asking a value for a bottle, just looking for discussion , not where the auction houses are , they are secondary passengers to the wine industry , and I give them no credence.......... I have a magnum 1.5 litre and a 3 litre of 88 greenock creek shiraz , thi...

I so agree with paradox , Give Napa a wide berth ! If you have never been , well I guess you have to do it . Napa Valley well Its a bit like Wine Disneyland ! Its pretentious and you will be charged to taste everywhere . However , Sonoma Valley has so much more to offer . This is comprised of many s...

rockford BP 99 shiraz

Drank a 99 Rockford BP shiraz last night and was a little dissapointed ! It is a shrinking violet ! Lovely aromas , in fact I could smell it all night, but the fruit has faded and there seems to be quite an imballance with the acid level as it ages ! Has anyone tried it lately ???? Ive had many BP's...

barossa cellar doors

It amazes me how many cellardoors are missed in this thread ! and how many are suggested that actually dont have cellar doors ( or wineries for that matter ) this is Lyndoch to Jacobs creek ! MY LIST start in Lyndoch Charles Cimiky ( maybe the best cellar door experience !) and they taste in riedels...

thanks bick

Bick, Thank you for the response. I was thinking of getting together a few Cab Franc's for a comparitave tasting with some friends. The list you have supplied was way more than I was expecting ! I should be able to source a fair few of them. My memories of Chatsfield ( WA) was that it was an unwoode...

BYO explained

I have the answer to all your woes about the BYO debate . Through the years as we took a bottle of wine to a restaurant , we were charged ' corkage' ! Its no longer relevant for restaurants to charge corkage for BYO , now that we have almost compleatly changed over to the stelvin screwcap ! They can...

Basedows ! Its now Grant Burge Illaparra winery in Tanunda ! This is the ex Basedows winery site , although there are three Basedow brothers now peddling a label, whom are decendants of Oscar Basedow, which had been around the Barossa for over a century ! ( and won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in I think...

It is the best Merlot from them in a long time ( I remember having 96, so they have been making Merlot for a while !)
Its worth checking out , and great value at $20 at the cellar door

99 bp

I recently drank a 99 BP shiraz and I think it is shrinking voilet! The fruit is rather subdued and it certainly seems to smell and have a strong influence on the palate of leather ! Its quite savory , but no where near the best rockford BP Ive tasted at that age ! Remember 98 was a very good vintag...
