Hi all. Someone I know has this new Liebherr of sale.

I am sure that they would be prepared to negotiate around $3K or a little less if someone was interested. Happy to put you in touch.

Hi all, Picked up some of the 2005 Alan's Cabernets with some of the very lovely Springflat and Reserve Shiraz from David a few months back. I tried one bottle not long after delivery and found the menthol/eucalypt just too intense. My wife, who claims a much better nose than I, referred to it as co...

Put me down for a bloody magnificent Redesdale Estate Shiraz from 2002. Lovely dark fruit and smoky chocolate. Enjoyed another couple of bottles Noons over the last few days, the 2004 Eclipse and the Shiraz. Having a Cattier NV champers tonight while my wife tucks into a Stella Bella Pink Moscato. a

Hi all. Noons 2005 Eclipse, Kays Amery Cabernet 2005 during the week. 1998 vintage Pol Roger, Campbells Trebbiano, 1996 Penfolds Bin 389, 1996 Henshke Mt Edelston and a Wild Duck Creek Fortified Shiraz last night with friends. The Pol didn't touch the sides - very drinkable. The 389 was as stunning ...

Hi all. Wife's been away all week while the laundry and loo were being renovated. Made a bit of a glutton of myself on the very nice Kays Amery 2005 Cabernet - plenty of chocolate, spice and black fruit. Sought forgiveness (for not sharing) by taking her out to dinner on Friday to Thai Nesia in Darl...

Hi all. Spoke to Tony at Wendouree, he confirmed that there will not be a 2007 Wendouree Vintage due to the effects of what has been 10 years of drought and its consequential impact on flavour accummulation. He noted, however, that 2006 was a great year and that they are intending releasing that vin...

Whew, that'll teach me to post a query and go away for a couple of days. Thanks all - these are great suggestions. I'll probably give Langton's a miss - much as I like the range on offer they do seem to milk you at every opportunity - much prefer Mark's approach to auctioning. The para looks the go....

Old Fortified for 80th Birthday
Hi all, I'm thinking about getting an old fortified for a relative who is about to turn 80 - so something about that old would be nice. Not knowing much about old fortifieds (they not lasting too long at our place), are there any that forumites might recommend. Is there somewhere that specialises in...

Hi DJZany, from what I have read in Tyson's book - which you may have seen mentioned on the forum - it may be that rapid fluctuations in temperature may be more harmful than a sustained period at 20 degrees. I seem to recall it has to do with the regular expansion and contraction of the wine and the...

What's the story with Chateau Lafite Rothschild?
Hi all, Tried a bottle of this in the eighties and recall it being right up there with the best we'd had at the time. Can't remember the vintage. I was having a look at Langtons today and noted the 1996 go for between $240-300 at auction, but the 2003 goes for btn $800-1000. WineSearcher notes a bot...

Thanks guys. I suppose my palate is currently calibrated somewhere in between the two extremes at the moment. I will persist with the Wendouree as I recall it with some fondness when I drank red in the early '80s (before the gout set in). I will try and stock away a couple of bottles every vintage o...

Hi Attila, I can't recall whether you give your young wines a lengthy period to breathe or not. I found the Shiraz Mataro - and now tonight the Shiraz Malbec - almost bereft of fruit, and very tight even after sitting in a decanter for 2-3 hours. The Mataro picked up after 24-36 hours with some dark...

Hi all. 2004 Wendouree Shiraz Mataro. Tight as the proverbial. Open for an hour. The nose had some VA, some very distant chocolate, a little pepper, black cherry and aniseed - all very subtle. Another 24 hours and a lot more chocolate and aniseed, some vague dark fruit and some pretty grippy tannins...

Looks like I was a little optimistic, but after some luck securing some Duck Muck, Noon's Eclipse and Kays Block 6, thought I might take a chance on some Wendouree Shiraz. Managed to get 4 each of the Shiraz-Mataro and the Shiraz-Malbec, but none of the Shiraz. Nonetheless I'm happy with that as my ...

Wine just delivered - How long to wait?
Hi all,
I had some 1994 Pennies Bin 389 delivered 2 days ago. I bought it from Mark's most recent auction. I would like to try a bottle tonight with friends but recall some saying that you should wait 10 days to let the wine settle. Is this correct or will 2 days do?
Regards,
Allan

Hi all, Wild Duck Creek 2003 Springflat Shiraz - bought at auction - no fruit to speak of, sour and acidic, I suspect poor storage, heat perhaps. Wild Duck Creek 2004 Springflat Shiraz - from the winemaker - deep brown/purple, full of chocolate and plums. Loved it. Marius 2004 Symphony Shiraz - the ...
