Guys,

Many thanks. I wasn't sure about the geography but it will be Waite campus, and a trip on the bus from the city won't be too much to bear. Looks like YHA is the go.

Good Youth Hostels in Adelaide?

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but given the Adelaide contingent that posts here I thought it might be a good place to start. A young graduate winemaker from Sth Africa is spending a week at Adelaide Uni and the AWRI as a part of a scholarship initiative. She would like to stay at a youth or backpac...

Well, that begs the question, Sue - which NZ wineries make your top 5? Crikey! I don't think I could settle on just five - there would be a multitude of 4th equals if that was the case. There are many outstanding producers in New Zealand and lots of other factors will come into the decision - like ...

They folded three years ago and the core of the group moved to Arkansas and became the Chickasaw Mud Puppies. Less soul, more roots.

Rooman,

Haskell hasn't been released yet, middle of next year. Dombeya is the second brand and the Chardonnay 2006 made it in the line-up which was a bit of a buzz.

Andrew, I have to say that I'm not familiar with all of the wines, so I can only comment on the ones that I have tried. There are some really impressive wines there, I think SA is doing some great stuff with the white Bordeaux blend style, Cape Point in particular, and the Chards are also very inter...

Re: What should I not miss at the tri nations tasting

The awesome tri nations tasting is on in a week or so and I decided to have a peruse of the invited wines - Its a seriously fine lineup of wines, but, with several hundred on offer and only a few hours to taste, I don't want to miss out on some lesser known highlights. So of the list (Here: m ) any...

Can't see a way to make a barrel fermented Savvy for under $15 retail, but happy to be proven wrong....for under $10 you have to look at Oxford Landing, which can be found for $6-$8, and for $12-$14 Dom Torzi's La Quattro 08 has some Savvy in it and is really good in an ultra dry style.

Barossa Show

I thought he made a couple of good points, in particular in relation to the remark he made about the Seppelt Fino...in some classes, the judge is on trial, not the wine. Other than that though, you can't expect shows to be perfect, and you're always going to get results that attract criticism ( or t...

Bick,

I sometimes associate that difference in smell (or what I think you are referring to ) with a touch of oxidation. See what the next one is like and that might provide an answer.

There are a lot of quality levels and ages, are you after the aged stuff for special occasions or a good everyday one? I think this was more to do with it being a marginal climate for Cabernet - only getting it fully ripe about 3 or 4 years in 10. Which winemakers say Cab is coming back?
