About time I posted in the Auswine forum again For me it boils down like this: When I drink wine without the company of food I find a hot finish disturbing. However, a wine that's "hot" can be completely different when enjoyed with food, especially food with high fat content. In Norway nea...

And a glass of Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling 1998 from a cork-sealed bottle and not displaying the overt reductive problems of the screwcap versions. This bottle was in superb condition - still fresh to nose with vibrant lime, honey, toast and lightly dusted with dried herbs; gorgeously texture...

1998 Chateau Reynella VP (fantastic stuff) cheers, Shhhhh! It really is mediocre. Ignore the reviews please. I can't believe that a vintage port in this day and age is worth $30. cheers Carl Carl, Our opinions seem to be diametrical regarding this wine. I gladly pay $30 for this fortified shiraz. c...

I've made some last minute changes. We'll be bringing:
2006 Cape Jaffa La Lune Shiraz (in the top three of what I've tasted while living here - still SA though)
2001 Heggies Reserve Riesling
1998 Chateau Reynella VP (fantastic stuff)

cheers,

I'm looking forward to this night. For a red I'm thinking of a Wirra Wirra RSW 02, or the Turkey Flat shiraz 02, or the 01 St Peter's. Any preferences Gustav? Chris, I'm a fan of all the wines you mention so I leave it up to you ot make the choice The riesling also sounds very interesting. I'm sure...

BTW Can I ask why so early, why a 6 pm start?? Is not 7 or 7:30 a bit more civilised?? or did I miss something? We usually start around 6.30 - 7, but I guess we need to start early to get through all the wine Especially after Sarah's "two bottles per person" statement I've never taken mor...

Alex,
Of the wines you list I've tried the 2006 Winter Creek Reserve and the 2004 LEAS Chardonnay and I also find them both stunning wines. The Winter Creek is of course too young, but the potential really excites me.

Great notes as usual Ian. I generally agree with your notes. The Grosset was the best match with the soup and was my WWOTN. I had great hopes for the Zind-Humbrecht, but it was a touch too hot (the nose was fantastic though..). I also thought the aged rieslings were very interesting. The Poggerino p...

Hope you can make it Adrian! You always bring excellent champers! Chinese sounds very good. I like the cuisine and also the continous flow of food. Excellent initiative Ian . 30th is fine with us. I'll surely miss all the "wine friends" I've made here. And the offlines of course. BYO is by law not allowed in Norway , but I'll try to arrange the first "vinforum", our Norwegian wine forum, offline somehow anyway. The theme sui...

TNs: AFWAC tasting: wines from the outstanding 1998 vintage

Last Monday Adelaide Fine Wine Appreciation Club (AFWAC) held a tasting of reputable reds from all over Australia from the legendary 1998 vintage. The only region where the vintage was not outstanding was Margareth River (and maybe more of WA?). It was a great tasting and I thank the organisers, esp...

Re: Some TNs - Goodbye to SOHO offline

2002 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon Very, very young, in need of a long decant, remained very tight and closed through the evening. Chunky tannins, loads of cedary and vanilla oak, red and black fruit(dark cherries, plums, mulberries, and blackberries), and lots of acid. Great potential, but just bar...

The lineup looks great! The Moss Wood and Best's are both looking very promising. Both wines were poured into decanters at 1 pm. I'll pour them back into their respective bottles just before we leave. Looking forward to seeing you all again (and your wines ;))!

After attending the Great Shiraz Challenge I was so impressed with the 2006 Cape Jaffa La Lune Shiraz that I bought a six pack. I've finally bought the wines we're bringing for the offline. I couldn't make myself buy aged wine this time so I ended up with: - 2002 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon (I know it was a cool vintage, but it should be a very interesting drink) - 2004 Best's Thomson Family Shiraz (I've been aching to try ...

TN:Classic Wines Club Annual Dinner@Wine Underground 7/7-08

The Classic Wines Club held their annual dinner last Monday and what a dinner it was! All courses were spot on, my favorite being the slow roasted lamb which was out of this world! I've wanted to go to Bridgewater Mill for a while now, especially because Petalumas Hanlin Hill Riesling is one of my favourite Rieslings. The 2008 has just been released and I was looking forward to trying it. We started by tasting two sparkling wines; the 2005 Croser and the 1997 Croser Proprietor...

Edinburgh Cellars GREAT Shiraz Challenge 2008

I'd been looking forward to this happening for a while and I was not let down. $25 for tasting a selection of 300 shirazes in the $10-100 is reasonable My plan was to taste as many as I could (spitting all wines) and after 2 1/2 hours of intense tasting I had reached 136. I was quite exhausted and m...
