Yes, very annoying. If they are being very difficult, I normally ask to buy a bottle or few bottles of wines from their list and ask them to open mine instead. Normally they would offer for us to take their wines home, or they could keep if you don’t want them.

Tasting is a lot easier in Bordeaux and Rhone. If you book far ahead, Burgundy is not a problem, especially the big houses like Bouchard and Faiveley.

no-one has mentioned the screw cap trials undertaken by Yalumba / Pewsey Vale et al in the 1970s, which partially contributed to the prevalence of screw caps today.
