2005 Steve Hoff Heritage Wines Rosco Shiraz - 15.2%alc I loved it. Full flavoured and smooth. It will only get better with bottle age. I'm getting another three to put away. In 10 years it will be a ripper. The missus also used it in the lamb shanks on the weekend and OM-F-G!!! Despite it being 15....

But when I find something like Ben Glaetzer's Bishop, Lazy Ballerina or alike, that's when I get excted about wine! Don't get me started on Ben's Bishop. The first time I had that was the 2005 vintage. Holy moly. I keep wanting to dip into my stocks to have one but force myself to try and spread ou...

The simple rule I follow (or at least follow 90% of the time) is try before I buy for the collection. And not just in store tasting but buying a bottle and having it at home over 3 days. I've drunk bottles that have impressed at home but then failed to impress me at in store tastings so I feel drink...

I felt that way when I tried the 2002 Grange. Whilst drinking it and comparing it to other wines it didn't impress as I thought a Grange would. When in the car driving home I reflected on the tasting and thought about tasting the Grange. It was the idea of tasting Grange rather than the wine itself....

Why is it that restaurants feel free to charge 3-4 times the retail price of a bottle. I don't know and I don't understand. Food is the first thing that springs to mind when I think about going to a restaurant. I go to a restaurant because I'm hungry, not because I'm thirsty. So why is the drink so ...

2006 Cat Amongst The Pigeons Barossa Valley Shiraz While drinking this I thought that I would let my 'signature' sing the praises of this wine but it deserves more than that. Good 'tish' it certainly is. Very fullsome with very good cling. Ripe berry aromas with rasberries, plums and a very very su...

Agree with Julio, the 2001 Cullen is an excellent wine. And as far as Turkey Flat Shiraz is concerned, this is also a safe bet. I have never heard a bad thing said about the brand. A classic at $40 dollars that is made from old vines that should be selling for much much more. Actually, I'd go the 20...

Hell of a lot better than the -5 and 40 that it could be exposed to in this particular region (North east Vic). Know what you mean. I was gonna store my wines under the house but I was worried about the temp fluctuations so I opted to hire out space. I would still be worried if I was in your friend...

I had the perfect spot when I first started collecting. It was an old 4 drawer chest in the en suite that my wife by surprise emptied and 'allowed' me to have. It held 60 bottles and was in an 'interior room' that was on the mostly shaded part of the house. Once I outgrew that and listened to all th...

2005 Grant Burge Filsell Old Vine Shiraz I've had wines in the past being described as black but this really is black. Medium body with generous cling. Nose full of rasberries and red fruits with Christmas cake spice and liquorice. Oak management, excellent. A superb sniff. Gorgeuos and supple on t...

2004 Vasse Felix Margaret River Shiraz Decanted half a bottle for about 3 hours before the game. Gorgeous glossy ruby red color. Excellent cling. Full aromas of red fruits, pepper and vanilla. The game was going according to plan and the Vasse was opening up even more. By the time Rocca kicked his ...

Mollydooker - Who's tried them and what do you reckon?
Hi Guys, I checked the recent topics of discussion in this forum and I couldn't see a topic revolving around the Mollydookers. JH and his 'add 5 points' remark has certainly caused a big stir on American forums so I thought I'd start a thread here to get an Australian perspective. Personally, I've t...

2006 d'Arenberg Laughing Magpie 'SV' This wine is a ripper. It's blend rate is 90/10 which astonished me because it tasted and smelt more like 5%. It's well balanced and full flavoured. This wine is the perfect all round dinner wine to please all guests. It has the power and spice of shiraz with th...

2004 Mr Riggs Shiraz Viognier As expected of a Ben Riggs shiraz the color was very deep and inky. Body, medium. The 15% alcohol is a bit high in this wine. The nose got a wiff of alcohol before the red fruit made a show. It seems a bit unbalanced and needs time to evolve in my opinion as the palate...

Old Adam Hysteria...
I saw that in the most recent Gourmet Wine Traveller that Huon Hooke rated the Old Adam 91/100. Then again he rated the 2004 Bin 389 a 91/100 also which I really liked. To use a wine that's universally liked as the yardstick he rated the 2005 Shaw & Smith Shiraz a 95/100. Opinions...Opinions. In...

I found the Footbolt too tannic and drying. Tried it when recommended by a fellow customer at an in store tasting and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. I found Zonte's Footstep SV to be very likeable, maybe a bit too much viognier but easy drinking and satisfying which is what I look for in ...

1999 Mitchelton Print Shiraz Starting to become earthy in color but still vibrant. On opening, full nose with ripe red fruits and evident French Oak. Not overdone, just complimentary. Coating the glass well but not inky like McLaren Valesque wines. Mouthfeel initially a let down. Somewhat lean and ...

I have to admit that I do keep my eye on Langton's just to see what the market is doing when selecting / trying just because I think that if they hold their value reasonably well then it stands to reason that the greater majority out there like them so they should be good wines. Unlike Yarra Yering ...
