I've rarely had any issues with Langtons in general, and usually have received responses from them quickly and with minimal fuss. My pet gripe however is the minor issue of commissions. As an Australian who recently moved up to Singapore, looking to restock his new cellar with some aged Aus reds, th...

The 1979 was a special release wine made for the athrtitis association. Apparently there were only a couple of cases made.

Ancient Wine Epiphanies in Paris!

Having been invited to a small wine-gathering here in Paris, I did my best to hunt for a respectable bottle to bring along for the evening. My humble offering of 2001 Bernard Dugat-Py was summarily overshadowed by the following line-up: 1953 CHATEAU MONTROSE Grand Cru Classé St Estèphe...

Wizz, I haven't tried the 2000 Apricot Block, but recently did taste one of my 2000 Seven Acre's at one of Atilla's wine dinners. I mention this because the SA was also showing 'in your face' olive characters. My fellow drinkers didn't seem too concerned, but I was quite disappointed, as the same wi...

Adair,
My vote would be for the 2000 WDC Reserve Shiraz. At $80-100 at auction, is a wonderful wine. From what I have heard of recent tastings for the earlier WDC vintages, the ageing potential is looking promising. I last tried it a couple of years ago, and was spectacular!

TN 2002 Greenock Creek Apricot Block

Celebrating my performance on the GMAT today, I decided to crack open one of my 2002 Apricots. At first I was a little concerned, as there was some obvious bottle stink (potent green olives) - very unpleasant, but soon after decanting it blew off. The wine is significantly less overtly alcoholic tha...

I was furious.
I was bidding on the 1965 Lindemans 3110 for a friend's 40th in 2 weeks - prepared to pay whatever was required, and then couldn't bid for the last 15 mins!
At 15% in and out, you'd think that they could afford some decent servers!

Adair, Tetsuyas was a 10 course degustacion @ $180 a head. Brilliant food, excellent service, and professional sommelier. Although I was utterly impressed with the whole experience, if I was forced to place a value on the dinner it would be closer to $120. Along with Marque, the option to BYO makes ...

Dinner @ Tetsuyas and some interesting bottles

Whilst enjoying Australia's best restaurant for my birthday with a few friends, the following bottles were enthusiastically polished off en route to our 130am finish and the resplendent Chocolate Terrine dessert. 1998 Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay In spite of my history as a red bigot, and the genera...

TN: Wild Duck Creek Reserve Shiraz 2003

Clearly needs many years to show its stripes; not nearly as approachable/aromatic as the 2000 vintage at release. Typical WDC shiraz - gripping tannins, well balanced acid and chewy texture. Honey, spice and red berries on the nose. Deep purple/black colour. High alcohol noticeable, but does not det...

Apologies for my ignorance.... automatically assumed Pinot when I read the Burgundy on the label (Shiraz must've been part of the label that had been torn off). The lighter weight was also deceptive! If anyone could explain the use of Burgundy on the label it would be appreciated. I believe the 6603...

TN: 1983 Lindemans Bin 6603 (Burgundy)

With permission to raid my parents cellar, I found a bottle of the 1983 Lindemans 6603 (Burgundy) with a barely legible, tatty label, and promptly decided to challenge my skepticism of Lindemans Pinots. Put simply, the wine was a HUGE surprise. Light bodied with a tight lively acid structure, good c...

2001 Apricot Block 99+
2001 Alice's - 98

6 of the 8 wines rated were between 98 & 100!

Any thoughts on the Greenock Creek Mailer?

As always the tasting notes of the Greenock mailer are glowing. The author does have an awesome handle of the english language, and a creative disposition, to say the least - High quality winemaking, and cellaring potential are a given year in year out for GC, but from a value perspective, the range...

By purely looking at the age of the wine, and the grape variety, you can assess the likelihood of getting a bad bottle. I have had a few corked over the past couple of years, but would probably be in the ballpark of 5% of all bottles bought. When you compare the price of these bottles at auction to ...

Adair,

It was me buying 3 of the '71 389's a couple of auctions ago for $70 +comm.

I was considering the '63 St.Henri, which went for $141, and the 1928 Climen @$599 - but then realised I could go for a trip to Thailand for those 4 bottles.

Plenty of exciting opportunities, not enough $$$!

Langtons Auction - Any bargains had?

It seems that the popularity, and hence the efficiency of the langtons online auctions have limited the opportunities for eye-opening bargains over the past 6 months. I thought it would be an interesting thread to see which wines were everyone's stand-out bargain - and perhaps why. Mine included: 19...

Something unmentioned as yet is the Tait winery. For some reason the Shiraz actually packs a bigger punch than the renowned BallBuster... but needless to say both are KO material - affordable too ($15-25) at Cellar door.

I bought a 6 pack direct from the cellar door several months ago. $50 a pop. I have seen past vintages at the Australian Wine Centre at Circular Quay, but not sure whether they have any 2002s. TN: Greenock Creek Apricot Block Shiraz 2001

After being impressed with the 1999 and 2000, I had high expectations, especially when the vintage was so highly touted. At 16% alcohol, it is simply enormous - too much so. Fried nostrils are testimony to its similarity to methylated spirits. Sincerely hope that it settles down, but don't expect it...

Strikingly unAustralian Shiraz. Congratulations to the wine maker for resisting the urge to load excessive oak, leaving a well balanced, pleasant wine that should age nicely for 10+ years. 14.5% alcohol, with soft tannins. Beautiful nose, with huge chocolate and raspberry aromas. Held its own when l...
