Re: Standish Mailer

I also noticed that Standish wines are not as popular as before in recent years. Even the auction price of the Lamella dropped quite substantially compared to few years ago. I don't know should I call it over-priced but the quality of Standish is always good. I wonder if it’s the price point (meani...

Re: Standish Mailer

Anyone purchase wine in the Standish annual mailer today? I was able to purchase wine 45 minutes after the mailer opened up on the Standish website. Not quite the feeding frenzy of Giaconda or Sami Odi, reflecting the high price points and greater production levels than the other two. I purchased 2...

Re: Bleasdale

Thanks for the responses.

I’m fascinated by them in some ways, they seem to fly under the radar despite being a critic darling and very well priced. I’m going to have to dig one out of the storage and give it an early whirl to see if it’s a winery to invest some more time in.

Bleasdale

I haven’t had much Bleasdale wine, other than a few old bottles which have found there way to Christmas lunches and the like courtesy of others. They always seem (at least recently) to rate highly with certain critics and the pricing seems reasonable. I grabbed a few bottles from last year (haven’t ...

I note that Bress are currently offering a vertical of 2018, 2020, and 2022 at a reduced price. Well, I’m sold! Haven’t tried this label before either - but a solid review and a bit of charm about their very old school website. $50 a bottle - seems worth a punt. Thanks for the notes - looks like a ...

April 2024 purchases

I’ll make a start on this one…. Ordered a mystery box from Cellardoor which included all Wynns wines: 1x 2020 JR 1x 2018 Michael 1x 2021 Glengyle 1x 2021 V&A Shiraz and Cabernet Shiraz 1x 2021 BL Happy to add a few more 2021’s to the mix. Would’ve preferred a 2019 JR and Michael… but look, I had...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

It’s Easter so… why not. Very dark in the glass, this is still quite primary in some ways albeit approaching 20 years. Tobacco, spice, tar - rich mouth feel. Very good. A wine you drink and wish you’d known to get on the mailer 20 years ago (when you turned 18!).

Interesting reading. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Sean. Of the wines being discussed, I still buy some Katnook, Petaluma and Houghtons. I managed to get some 2019 Jack Mann last year for around $85 a bottle, and 2019 Katnook Odyssey for a smidge under $70. Hard buys at the RRP, but I’m not sure ...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Had these last weekend. The Drumborg very good, saw it had disappeared from where I’d purchased. Hope it comes back again.

The Lindemans was incredible. Tobacco, old library vibes. Once it got some air in the glass it showed great length and depth.

Great deal on that Craig, well done.

I’m having a Clarendon Hills 2003 Cabernet tonight. Hinting at its maturity on the nose, still quite fruit driven and powerful. These wines are built to go the distant.
