Re: Brisbane Offline April 2021 Wine Notes
Thanks as always Michael for being chief reviewer for the wines. It has been a long time between offlines and as Michael says for us it is always about the catch up and opportunity to share wines with the group. Some really interesting wines and a bit different from what is normally brought along. I...

How about we don't have a specific theme and and bring something special to celebrate us finally catching up again Post Lockdowns. Hopefully I don't jinx things writing this!! Menu for the night is Calamari, Potato Soft Pure, ...

Re: Wine Cellar Cooler Fan
Probably a cost thing at the time of install. For about the same price as a split AC unit you can run the temp down to what ever temp you want ie. 12 to 15 deg c vs. a split system which would struggle at a lower temp. Next level at an extra cost would be a wine specific cooler with humidity control...

Re: Wine Cellar Cooler Fan
So, I wired up the fan to run 24 hrs a day as per others. The evaporator is mounted on the roof and the air flow does not directly hit any stored wine and bounces of the wall's, so my thought process is that continued circulation through the chiller will give a more stable/even air temp in the cella...

Wine Cellar Cooler Fan
Hi, Been a long time since I have been on the forum, but I was wondering if I could get some advice on the cellar cooling system. The cellar is fitted with a Kirby system the same as what would be installed in a cold room i.e. condenser outside and circulation fan/evaporator inside. The cellar is ab...

2004 Penfolds Bin 389 From a good vintage but I can not help thinking that all the good fruit got sent to other wines after the 1998. It's not bad and has plenty of legs to go for a long time yet but it has a bit of heat and slightly unbalanced. 2006 Wynns Black Label Another grad vintage with enou...

Re: Brisbane Offline - Friday 31 March
Thanks for another great night. As always everyone is very generous and we had a huge selection of wine to try. The Hoddles Creek was my pick of the whites. Like Michael and Will I kept a glass on the go for a couple of hr’s. It started of very tight and if served blind I would not have picked it as...

Just giving this a bump to see if any other Brisbane folks are interested. Some new faces would be nice. We don't bite (well Ian might if the subject of golf comes up). On the wine side of things. I have several options in Cabernet, more if blends are allowed. I am thinking one of these: 2005 Burge...

Theme :Cabernet is King or challenge the king?? I really like it Gerry. I assume Cabernet predominant wines, so a Bordeaux Blend is OK. Oh, and i've got a lot of good'uns from far and wide to fit the theme. yep, new, old, blends ok or perhaps someone has something special to challenge the king of r...

[b]2002 Charles Melton Cabernet Sauvignon. Barossa Valley. Cork broke in the bottle as I was too lazy to find my Ah-So. No problems though and wine was perfect. Still has enough fruit to make it interesting, but also starting to show some aged characteristics. Just a very small amount of alcohol he...

Thanks for the kind comments - it's still like my baby and I find it hard to keep out of it. The temp is at 15 and I found a few old Wendouree I'd forgotten about Rens. Nice one Luke, the cellar looks fantastic, love racking. Perhaps one of the older Wendouree's could make it to another offline

Re: Faulty Oxidized Wine
No offence, but why did you keep a 1999 Hill of Gold chardonnay for "just under a year" after you got it?? It doubt this made the difference, but its still pretty optimistic for a 15 yr old Aussie mid-tier Chardonnay to expect it to get any better than it was the day you picked it up. I g...

Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007: lots of cherry and violet aroma’s, nice length but kind of a bit bitter on the finish, if that is the right way to say it. Enjoyable, but after the Ata Rangi a couple of weeks back I have been spoilt and it was simply outclassed. Last wine for me for a while, it i...

A few over the weekend Ja Ja 2004 Shiraz; Black fruits, Tabaco and hints of hickory. Nice fruit structure with savory and pepper. Drinking superbly and in its prime. Sadly I only have one left and drank the others way to early. Bremerton Old Adam Shiraz 2006. Big and Bold, lots of black fruit, choco...
